Two-time defending champions Bob and Mike Bryan opened their title bid Wednesday morning at the Australian Open with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Argentines Maximo Gonzalez and Juan Monaco.
It marked the top-seeded Bryans' 12th straight win in Melbourne as they improved their team's event record to 25-6. They have reached the Australian Open final for four years running, finishing as runners-up in 2004 to Frenchman Michael Llodra and Fabrice Santoro and in 2005 to Zimbabweans Wayne Black and Kevin Ullyett. They won their first Australian Open title in 2006 by defeating Martin Damm and Leander Paes, and defended their title by topping No. 2 seeds Jonas Bjorkman and Max Mirnyi in last year's final.
The 29-year-old Americans have finished as the No. 1 team in the Stanford ATP Doubles Rankings the last three years and four of the last five (except 2004). In 2007, the Bryans compiled a 77-9 match record, won a career-high 11 titles and clinched the Davis Cup title (vs. Russia) for the U.S.
Last week, they began their 2008 ATP campaign by reaching the Sydney final and held three match points in the title match before faltering to Frenchmen Richard Gasquet and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

6-3 6-4 over Almagro/Massu, but it was kind of a tight match, lots of close games etc. Good match from the guys though and yay for them being on a TV court so I could watch
