Nico lost.
But he tried hard and that's all we can ask.
It was a good tournament for him.
He seems more focused, and he's not giving up.
Big for Nico. Tough loss, especially after he had the lead in the third.

I'm too happy now for Juan Carlos to be sad for Nico, and I think he's playing much better now. He can make it back into the top 30 this season, then no more qualifying draws or challengers

I agree Nicofan. Nico had a great tournament really. Of course I'm dissapointed he didnt' win but it was a quarterfinal match he lost, not a qualifiying round match.
 for Nico for the loss
on a great overall tournament for him!!!

too bad it was close
i hate when he loses having a break up in the 3rd, same old history
well at least he looked motivated again

After first I thought the same thing when he lost - same thing as last year. He gets tight at the end and loses it.
But like you said, he looks motivated again. Last year, he didn't seem motivated at all. So hopefully he will keep fighting hard again.
And the more he plays and wins, the less he'll lose these types of matches. (I hope... )

Re: AUCKLAND: Ushering In The "2008 Year Of Changes" ... And No Excuses!
such a shame and he was so closed
but I'm so proud of him, and I'm still happy, this is the Nico that we want and need, this was a great tournament for him and we can only hope for better times after this week
and like we saw, he is more agressive and really focussed and always trying really hard so this has to be a good sign for the year that is just starting
a big big for Nico ... keep it going chico!

what a pity that he couldn't win after leading
but that's a good tournament for him, he qualified and then go to QFs

Re: AUCKLAND: Ushering In The "2008 Year Of Changes" ... And No Excuses!
I had a reply of the match yesterday night, I didn't watch it completely but I saw the first set and part of the last one (I fall sleep with the tv on of course lol!) and this Nico is a different Nico than the one we saw the last year, I've heard during these days from a lot of people that they haven't seen him playing like that in a long time and I saw that yesterday (it's not the same on a livestream than in a big tv haha) and I was really impressed, he was playing really great, the tv guys kept saying that Nico was beign again the Nicolas that all the players were worried to face since the rest of the players knew that they wouldn't have an easy match. I'm sure that JC needed a long sesion on the massage room 'cause Nico made him run like hell, it was a great match from both of them but what I really enjoyed was to see Nico playing like we want and like we know he can. So I only can expect for a good year this season

Re: AUCKLAND: Ushering In The "2008 Year Of Changes" ... And No Excuses!
good news Kid . While I think Nico could have won the match against JCF, it was not the same situation as last year. He has shown great improvement in this tournament and I have confidence that he will continue to improve
