I wonder if he will get a start? I think he has done really well beating Robert, Brydan and Bernard to the the team.

He might play doubles you would think with Guccione. We'll see.

Smeets has just has his citizenship pushed through by TA and is being sent to Chile as a seventh player! We might not have the quality but we will sure swamp them by sheer weight of numbers!

Begs the Question. Is Fitzy planning to play Smeets in the doubles with Gooch? (thus Groth will lose his place) and if Smeets has only just become an Aussie why have TA given him two Aust and one French grand slam wildcards? Another question. If a DC player has to have been a resident of the country he represents for 3 years prior to the tie how did Ball, who has always resided in the US gain eligibility? Just wondering!

Its very complicated when persons from other countries want to represent another country, for us in Australia we are such a multicultural country that it is bound to happen. I think there is big difference between actually being a citizen or resident of the country and fitting the Davis Cup criteria for playing for any country. I can answer Ball's picking with his father Syd Ball, he was born in Australia and played Davis Cup for Australia. This made Ball eligible for Citizenship in Australia even though he never really lived here. He must have just gotten it one day when he was younger.

Sam has suffered from a knee injury and he will be out of the game for some time. A tear and some bruising.

Sam is making his return to competitive tennis this week playing in a Malaysian future tournament where he is the number 2 seed before heading to Japan to play two successive challengers. This is a good way for Sam to ease back into competition with a future tournament to build some confidence before the Aussie summer.

Good return for Sam to competitive tennis he won 7-6(2) 6-3. I think if he plays well he should be able to have a tournament victory in Malaysia.

Nick and Marinko both lost in round 1 and so now it is up to Samuel to fly the flag. Heat and humidity are terrible there atm.

Groth has this week made the semi-finals of the Yokohama Challenger. Well done to him and good to see that he is in a bit of form for the Australian summer.

It would be great if he stays injury free.

Good win against Dancevic. I think that if he is at his peak he can win a few matches this Australian summer.

One of the few young Aussies that actually has the weapons to trouble higher-ranked players. I can't see the likes of Ebelthite, Klein or McKenzie developing big weapons. Better off trying to help the likes of Verryth and Groth
