SF: Brydan KLEIN (AUS) (1) defeated Samuel GROTH (AUS) (4) 6-1 7-5

Decent week for Sam. Will most likely be able to make the AO Qualies now without having to rely on a wildcard irrespective of what he does in Traralgon.

He won 7-6 6-4.
Had a few problems converting break points in the first set, but thankfully it didn't end up hurting him.

After a finals showing in Traralgon Groth was able to win this week in Bendigo, encouraging result considering the field of Bendigo. He will now finish the year ranked around 258 and will make the cut for the AO qualifying, he will also be able to play challengers again. It'll be interesting to see how Sam goes next year, he is only 23 which some people seem to forget he is still young. I think Sam can definitely crack the top 200 next year but how far he will actually go is anyones guess. Good luck in the playoffs if he ends up playing.

Excellent work Sam. Fitness is a big question for next year and the years beyond in regards to how far he can go in his career. Good to see he's put himself in a good position ranking-wise to have a decent crack at challengers next year.

Well done to the big Groth. Will be great to see him nailing those serves in the Oz Open qualifying. Made the final harder by not converting those break-points.

Lost to Rochette 63 75. He will be disappointed with that. Will be off to Honolulu after he plays the doubles.

It was a huge disappointed.

Rochette never won with somebody like Sam, he never even played a game on challanger circuit on hc and now won with Groth in his country on Slam qualys.

Sam hasn't that day return, Laurent was making easy points even on 2nd serve with 120-140km/h when Groth was saving BP's with 220km/h.

It was a one moment to comeback when Sam had 3BP's @ 24 but he wasted them all.

Really it is a shame, it was a very nice opportunity to earn some good money and points here.

I think next huge option it's gonna be if Groth gonna have a good rank to play on grass courts on challangers, ATP Qualys or Wimby Qualys or he gonna wake up fast now.

The "other" Groth had a good win in the dubs with Jonesie, getting up against Looch and Ebden in three entertaining sets. The volatile Groth had his ups and downs, cracking some big serves, one at 233kph, snapping his racquet after the 2nd set loss, arguing the lines with the umpire, hitting some sweet volleys, missing an easy overhead and nailing a return forehand at about 150ks. Good entertainment...

Sam and Jonesie got a win in the doubles in Honolulu but the big Groth went down in the 1st round of the singles to No.5 seed Bobby Reynolds in 3 sets after winning the 1st set.
