Great news for Australian Ivo.

He must earn some confidence and back to tour play some Tretorns or try play in some #250 qualys and go through

Groth now headed to a 15k future in Belarus where he should be seeded. I'd like to see him back up with a good result in Minsk, Belarus as well. He is entered in the following 15k future the week after as well but is likely to not be seeded in that one. They are hard court tournaments and Sam is in form so as long he is not fatigued I am expecting some good results in Belarus as well.

Correction to my previous post: Groth is actually in Turkey for another week where he is the number 2 seed on Hard courts. This is good for Sam because he will not only gain some more points but will almost assure a seeding for both Belorussian futures coming up. Hopefully at least another finals showing for Sam this week. Good luck mate.

Lovely draw for Sam in Turkey.

Vladimir OBRADOVIC (SRB) (6) Vs Jakub LUSTYK (CZE)
Tomislav BRKIC (BIH) Vs Philip ORNO (DEN)
Thibault VENTURINO (FRA) Vs Andemir KARANASHEV (RUS)
Kalle AVERFALK (SWE) Vs Samuel GROTH (AUS) (2)

Sam's opponent in the first round is an unranked Swedish youngster who has qualified for his second senior tournament this year but his form looks questionable as he nearly got beat by Australian Harrison Keyser in the Qualifiers.

I heard a rumour that Sam and Jarmila Groth are considering switching nationalities and playing for Turkey. I'm confident that surely this is not true, but it is very worrying. Anyone know anything about this?

They are just training there. It would be silly for the couple to change nationalities after it took so long for Jarmila to gain Aussie citizenship.

Groth won his first round 6-1 6-3. Thibault Venturino will be his second round opponent. Venturino is ranked 1420 in the world and lists himself as an ambidextrous player although he also says that he didn't start playing tennis till he was 80 so his profile is probably not that accurate. Either way Sam should progress through this matchup.

Just training in Turkey Mate, at an academy at which Gavin Hopper is involved. The big Groth would never defect. Never

R2: Samuel GROTH (AUS) (2) defeated Thibault VENTURINO (FRA) 6-1 6-2
QF: Philip ORNO (DEN) Vs Samuel GROTH (AUS) (2)

Orno is an unranked qualifier who has a good week by his standards. Sam should put him away fairly easily. I shouldn't look too far ahead but it would be a big shock if Sam didn't make the final considering if he wins this match he will either play Gombos who he beat 63 62 last week or Albot who Sam also beat 63 61 last week.

Sam is into the final but he surprisingly had a few issues in both matches. He won the Quarter 57 63 63 and then won the semi 61 57 64 but I'm not sure who he beat in the semi as it is from his twitter feed. Hopefully he win back to back titles in Antalya.

From Sam's Twitter account:

Nice to see Sam get on a run finally. Hopefully some more strong showings in Belarus over the next two weeks.

Would be good to see Sam continue this good run over the next two weeks...he is too good a player to be ranked this low!

Great stuff Sam. Not the toughest opposition but he is doing what is required and getting the wins.

Sam's draw for the 15k indoor hard future in Minsk, Belarus.

Samuel GROTH (AUS) (6) Vs Aleksandr AGAFONOV (UKR)
Nikolai FIDIRKO (BLR) Vs Yaraslau SHYLA (BLR)
Ivan ANIKANOV (UKR) Vs Stanislav POPLAVSKYY (UKR)
Gleb ALEKSEENKO (UKR) Vs Jurgen ZOPP (EST) (2)

Agafonov is ranked 766 in the world and has spent the year mainly playing in Eastern European Futures and based on his recent form, Sam should be able to beat him.

Groth into the quarters with a 6-3 6-4 win over Agafonov, followed by a 6-3 6-2 win over Fidirko.
