I don't agree vucina, if they are good enough, then they will make it. Ferrer has made it and he isn't exactly a tall guy and Davydenko isn't huge either.

Ok, we have different definitions of "made it". I was talking about winning slams. But, top 10 is plausible.

Top 10 in any global field isn't something to be laughed at. Even then, if a player is good enough, then they will win Slams, they just have to use other methods and rely on different strengths to get the victories.

Re: Which one of these 8 youngsters will have the best career? (Gulbis, Cilic, etc et
Tsonga is the first one of this group to win a TMS and made a GS final.
Cilic won a title and did well in GS events. Gulbis is still erratic, but had a good showing at RG.
Korolev has had hernia problems, this means he has been out of the limelight, but he will need to realise there is only so far you can go from thrashing the shit out of the ball at all times.
Bolelli had his best season so far and plays some aggressive tennis, but those shocking service returns need work.
Big Sam did better than many expected, he gets underrated mainly because he just looks like this big goofy guy who isn't threatening.
Zverev, it's going to be harder with the surfaces slowing down, but he can still get some good results.
Young, we'll see.

Interesting that all the love is for Korolev for the first part of the thread. Obviously injuries have hampered him but even so, alot of the recent comments I've read about him on here is that he doesn't have much game and never had the potential of even a Cilic or Gulbis in the first place.

Re: Which one of these 8 youngsters will have the best career? (Gulbis, Cilic, etc et
If Gulbis never reaches top 10 or wins TMS, he will be the most overrated player in history.
Similar to Gasquet, a man who peaked at the age of 18.
It will be interesting to see what happens in the future...can't wait to see how rankings will look like in 5 years time.

He has the game but lacks the game plan. I've said it before, he needs a coach.. a REAL tennis coach. There's just so much daddy and big brother can do. I'm still hopeful that one day he'll get an actual coach.
I had heard rumors this summer that he was sharing a coach with Ivanovic, but I'm not sure.

Re: Which one of these 8 youngsters will have the best career? (Gulbis, Cilic, etc et
I don't see why this thread is limited to comparing GS results. We all know that ultimately those are the things that will matter in looking back on the players careers later but at the moment we are just watching developments. I know the question is who will have the better career which suggest reflection but really this thread is for predictions and the other results of these players are noteworthy for sure.
Measuring potential stretches beyond a couple of matches. It is difficult to use the information provided by GS events to great effect on its own because there is insufficient data. When you are looking at just 4 events over a year variables like health, draws, opposition form etc... come into play heavily. Still an interesting idea but less useful than a wider spread of information in trying to make accurate predictions about youngsters career paths.

You know the reason why it won't happen.

Other than Tsonga whom I like all the others are hopeless mugs. If they ever come on top it only proves the tennis era is on a downhill again just like when Hewitt and Roddick became number one.
