Default How important is jumping when hitting forehands?

I rarely jump, but I notice many pros that do it seemingly as much as possible. Is there some secret method to improving my forehand that nobody told me about?

Well - the key to a good forehand is good weight transference.

In fact you shouldn't jump to hit a forehand unless you know pretty well how to hit a proper one from the ground.

Jumping is a side effect of hitting a powerful forehand after setting up from the ground up. It is an end itself, not a means to an end.

The posts above me mostly are correct .
Simple fact is if your in the air before the racquet hits the ball its usless and mostly a show instead of skill .

Sometimes you end up in the air after the shot, as very correctly put by stebs.

how is it useless? you get power by pushing from the ground(not necessarily a jump though). you push from the ground roughly around the time you hit, which would cause you to make contact while in the air.
