Re: Richard's funniest!
Richie taught me a French bad word. During a press conference after beating Andy at Wimbledon this year, they told him he'd play Federer the next day at noon (It was maybe 8 or 9 the evening before). He said something like, "Putain-la", which I think means "Fuck that" or "Fuck this". Can any native French speakers help out here.

Re: Richard's funniest!
It was more "Putain! Là..."
"Putain" (literally "whore") is a very common swearword. It's bad, so don't use it at school, but players (and not only players) say that all the time.
"là" was referring to the scheduling of his match against Fed. It meant something like "then... (it will be very tough!)".
So just say "Putain!" next time you miss a shot, forget about the "là".
My funniest Richie moment was his interviews in Indian Wells when he used a couple of neo-Dada expressions out of the blue, "to play against a cactus", etc. It didn't make any sense, it was awesome.
And his accent, of course.

Ah, those arrogant Parisians always mocking the southerners. Compared to what I had to listen to during my summer holidays at local festival [in Mouriès], Richard is an ENArque.

Re: Richard's funniest!
Nice thread
I remember a video of his press conference in Hambourg 2005. They interviewed him in english and he was lost. He was asking some french journalist to help him with some english words. At some time, he laughed and said something like "Putain, je parle anglais comme un Togolais. C'est pitoyable".
"****. I speak english like a Togolese. That's pathetic"
(I am sure we can find some togolese people speaking better englsih than him actually )
Unfortunately, I can't find the video anymore.

Meanwhile things have improved. He speaks English like the average Frenchman -poorly.
No offence to Togolese and French people though.

Re: Richard's funniest!
Great thread!
There are a couple of things he said recently in interviews which were quite funny. But I don't remember when and where it was.
I love the comparison with the Togolese I didn't know this quote!

They taught us a French swear word in high school. I think it was, "Zut!!" which is the equivalent to Damn or darn right?? That's not a bad word. Putain means whore?? Sort of like puta in Spanish, which I thought meant bitch. Rafa yelled that that in a video once. But a similar phrase, "Que putada". I thought that meant, "Fucked up". How can a similar word have so many different meanings in two languages?

Re: Richard's funniest!
When my Mother was learning French, she'd use "merde" all the time.
I thought Richie was funny when he said that he might find a nice Chinese girlfriend.

Re: Richard's funniest!
If he wants a nice girlfriend, I could meet up with him in Miami. After all, I know where he eats there.

Re: Richard's funniest!
What about the interview where he said ''I have guy friends. But I'm not gay.''

I think he was almost mocking the journalists with that quote.
