Default Is Andy mentally/emotionally all there?!

I mean, is he all there?! Do you guys really think he can win Queens?! I dont mean to sound like a faithless bitch--but I havent been watching tennis lately so I dont know what is going on, and just by reading all your guys' posts and stuff, he seems like he is out of it or something, or there is something going on and he is distracted these days

No, he was fine before the clay court season. The clay makes Andy a little :retard: and he looks miserable. He'll step on the grass and be fresh as ever, he'll have his two biggest weapons (serve/forehand) work wonders on that surface and his confidence will be back. No need to fret

Mrs. Guga Andy only played badly in the 5th set with Mutis. That was really the only bad thing he did in RG. Mutis had to come up with some great stuff. Hewitt got better on clay and so can Andy. It will take time.

Hewitt got better? It would make sense but he keeps shocking me with terrible performances on clay, that you wouldn't expect from such a player. So I wouldn't be so confident that Andy isn't another case of Sampras at Roland Garros. I don't think he would mind that however if he indeed becomes as good as Sampras on other surfaces.

Hewitt made the qrts. He has gotten better on the red stuff, yeah he will never be a great clay player but he is only helping himself in the future by getting better at it. Andy would have to take time away from his hard court play to become a much better clay player. I don't see him doing that nor would I advise it. Its easier to go from good clay player to good hardcourt player and indoor player than vice versa.

But hasn't Andy had some recurrent early round exits this year, not including the clay season?! I really do love him, I am not trying to knock him!! Correct me if I'm wrong. I haven't been following the sport, but much time I do hear anything, it's that Andy had an early round exit in something, but maybe I am just misinformed

The only other time Andy lost early was in Doha, he went out to Bjorkman in the 2nd round. Yes he did go out early also in Rome and RG, but those were clay. You asked if he bombed out early on surfaces other than clay, and that was pretty much it, Doha the very first tournament he played that year

Mrs Guga, Andy's always "out of it" on clay. He won Queens last year, I hope he can repeat this year (although Tim Henman is looking pretty scary these days ). I think once the grass and hardcourt season revs up, he will find his form again.

I think Andy is doing fine emotionally/mentally. If he plays horrible on grass and hardcourts, then that is the time to worry. But for now, it's all good.

Default Re: Is Andy mentally/emotionally all there?!

Gaudio battled through 5 setters & played smartly recently.
Andy is in denial about his mind/physical endurance and speed.
It's annoying that he laughed & said he could beat the same guys
on clay because he beat them in 2002.

He has a stubborn attitude that's worse than 2 years ago.
No wonder he lost a match point & couldn't convert a lot of break points in quarterfinal hardcourt matches. Gilbert gave him too much hope at Australian Open, but he didn't calm down/change his game.
He lost matches after leading
7-6 2-0 & 6-3 6-7, 3-1 in tiebreak & lead 6-3 2-0 7-6, 2-0 4th set in RG.

In 2004, Miami was the only place where he recovered from a mental breakdown (3rd set).
Some don't expect him to beat top 10 players in Masters Series/slam
quarterfinals, so my opinion probably means nothing.
Even fans don't believe he was self-destructive.

He lost at 2003 Roland Garros, but he played decently in Austria.
In 2004, he wasn't as fast as last year. He had a bad schedule/bad game plans.
He foolishly served faster (140 mph) than last year, therefore couldn't hold his serve when he couldn't return the balls that came back fast. He was told to blast forehands & use topspin, but he didn't hit enough backhands/dropshots.
That's predictable, so he lost a lot.
This will bring him down to #3-5 because he won't win a slam or Olympics gold medal(Olympics give ranking points, mrs. guga).

He will be all there once the US hard court season begins - or everybody thinks so.

See guys, this is why Dirk isn't such a bad guy!

Fumus, don't even try to rehabilitate Dirk.

I think he has shown his colors once too often around here. Everyone was nice to him when he first started posting on this forum because he acted friendly and reasonable, but after a few weeks his true nature was apparent.

Yea but, I was a jerk, you guys rehabilitated me. I have talked to Dirk, really he's not a bad guy, he's a little accentric and random at times but, very knowledgible.

I have talked to Dirk too when I thought he was a sane person. He twisted what I said to him in emails to derride me later on.

He also has posted his fantasy of how I could be tortured to death and called me a "stupid skank."

You might be close friends with him but don't try to defend him to me.
