It was long time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw the final, it was so good to see seb playing well, to see him agressive, motived and smiling, he was really happy after the match point !
Technically, he served very well and his forehand was back, still as impressive.
A good day, for him, he won the double.

Il était quasiment au fond du gouffre cet été après Wimbledon et avait perdu la motivation. En une semaine à Lyon, Sébastien Grosjean ( Photo Reuters ) a retrouvé le plaisir de jouer mais aussi de gagner. Le Marseillais raconte cette joie intense qu'il a vécue en remportant le quatrième tournoi de sa carrière.

« Sébastien Grosjean, depuis combien de temps n'aviez-vous pas connu pareille émotion ?

En Coupe Davis, on vit des émotions très fortes. Mais quand on gagne un tournoi, on soulève un trophée, ce que je n'avais pas fait depuis longtemps. C'est un soulagement et un bonheur immense. En France, c'est formidable de soulever un trophée. C'est génial, ça me fait un bien fou. Ce succès est plus fort sur le plan de l'émotion que mes précédentes victoires à Nottingham et Saint-Pétersbourg, mais elle l'est un peu moins que celle à Bercy. Paris, c'est un trophée supérieur et en plus à l'époque (en 2001), ça m'avait permis de me qualifier pour le Masters.

Comment avez-vous vécu ces 5 ans sans titre ?

Ce fut difficile. De si bons résultats en Grand Chelem et en même temps pas grand-chose dans les tournois. Cet été, après Wimbledon, j'avais perdu la motivation. Même si je n'étais pas au fond du trou car il y a des choses bien plus graves.

Quel a été le rôle de votre entraîneur Bernard Fritz ?

Il a été là quand ça n'allait pas. Après Wimbledon, il est venu me donner un coup de main. Il m'a redonné confiance en moi, tout simplement. Il était à mes côtés pour me soutenir, quand je ne jouais pas bien. C'est un peu mon deuxième père, j'allais chez lui quand j'étais tout petit.

Cette victoire est-elle une revanche par rapport aux récentes critiques ?

Vous savez, je joue avant tout pour moi, pas pour les autres. Les gens qui critiquent... Mais quand ils disaient « Ce n'est plus le même Grosjean », ils avaient un peu raison car je ne jouais pas bien. Ce que je demandais, c'est du respect. En France, pas beaucoup de joueurs ont été dans le Top 5 mondial.

Cela vous donne-t-il plus d'ambitions pour l'an prochain ?

Mais j'étais motivé pour faire une saison pleine avant de venir ici. Mes entraînements de novembre et décembre étaient même planifiés. Aujourd'hui, j'ai des ambitions de revenir dans les 30 au classement. J'espère être tête de série à Roland-Garros. Quant à Bercy, j'aborde le tournoi avec le plein de confiance et un peu de fatigue aussi. Mais c'est de la bonne fatigue. »

It's so surprising (and so wonderful!!) to see Seb winning again after all these eternal injuries, bad luck and absence of motivation. Hope that now when he's felt again the taste of victory we'll be able to see more of that good old Seb and his impressive and so beautiful game!
