If I understand the official website right, Guilles match won´t be played today either
But maybe some native spanish speaker can confirm that

Man, I finally want to hear the result of Guilles comeback I am far too excited to wait any longer

Guille led 3-2 40-0 and then committed 5 double faults consecutively... lost 4 games in a row and then retired...

Default Re: Belo Horizonte - Guille other tiem in the courts.

from after the match:
"I entered the court very nervous", Coria admitted. "I believe I was more tense than when I played the final at Roland Garros. Then I started to relax and I think I played well for three or four games, but I felt pain in the ribs, my shoulder got hard and I got scared. I decided that it was better to quit to avoid aggravating a possible injury."

****
That said...........it cannot be that he gets injured everytime he walks on the court in a tournament. I was there for his slip at the us open, so I saw him fall...but he has been injured in so many matches since this double faulting began that it can ONLY be psychological. There are no known injuries that appear only on tennis courts during match situations.

but he refuses to see a psychologist....that kind of nerves for such a tiny event where you have every permission to fail, and still he is so full of nerves he cant function? surely he must see the INJURY is psychology-based...and see the correct type of doctor to cure it...since he can't seem to do so himself.

looks like it was a back injury. most encouraging was him saying he needs to get back out there and play. im worried he has no physical problems and they are all brought about by nerves that come on as soon as he hits a double fault. only way to get over it is to play thru it, he will eventually win sets and then matches.

Default Re: Belo Horizonte - Guille other tiem in the courts.

Here is an article from La Nación. Maybe it is the same like the other article in english, but as I only speak a bit of spanish I don´t know

Reading from the article boejoe posted, Guille says he felt something in his back, shoulder, and got scared. I mean, if someone has been injured a good number of times like Guille has, that would put a sort of...permanent fear inside one's head. It's kinda like that phantom thing with amputees. It's there, but it's not.

Which is of course psychological. But one cannot explain to a MOSTLY well person, who is in very good physical condition, blah blah blah, "YOU NEED MENTAL HELP...BADLY." Then it's like "dude, you're the one who's crazy." But the more rationale side would argue that you haven't played in year, you say you're in very good physical condition, but then you play a few games, you feel a twinge and you instantly freak out. I mean, is it you, or him, or it? What's really goin' on? Mind? Body? Hot? Cold?

A double fault may have triggered the nerves. He said he relaxed after he got into the match. But, you don't lose 4 games on 5 df's. Two of those games are service games, and the other return games. So if it's 3-2, 40-0, that's a one break lead. So if you lose serve once, you're even. Of course you can lose 2 services games on 5 df's, judging on how you arrange 'em, but you sho' as hell don't lose return games off df's. So what happened during the return games?

We can say maybe the pain distracted him, or the Day of the Living DF's had his attention. All that falls into the psychological realm.

Or we can say that match play is NOT like practice. Like, you do two miles on the walking trail at the park every other day, so you decide to walk a marathon? That's two different things. But if you want to do it, it's gonna hurt. You have to take the pain if you're gonna do it. You can't just quit every time you hit the 2 1/2 mile mark. I mean, you'll get stuck, mentally and physically. What the fuck am I talking about, anyway? Oo look! A concessions stand....

i hope we get to see him play another tournament this year. i mean, this is a point where he has to ask himself if he really wants to come back. if yes, then he has to play matches and he has to handle defeats against weaker opponents. if he can't do that, then it makes no sense at all.

i wouldn't have been angry if he lost 3 and 3 to brzezicki, even if it's a terrible result for a player with his talent. so what? he could've tried better next time. but i'm sure it won't get better if he plays one tournament in 78963 weeks and then retires from his first round match.

sorry for being harsh on him, but that's my opinion.

do you guys think he has actual injuries to his shoulder and back OR he gets nervous and stiffens up and stresses out?

Watching him early last year i was like, just tap the serve over and your general game is good enough to win points. But then i noticed he was just trying to tap it over, yet the ball when flying out of court or bounced before the net. That isn't a injury...thats just nerves causing stiffness.

All the practise and time off in the world won't help now..he just needs to stick out a few matches, take a few losses, and eventually confidence will come back and he will win(I HOPE!!)

Default Re: Belo Horizonte - Guille other tiem in the courts.

at this point, i don't believe they can be injuries...since probably around Monte Carlo 06, they're all mental. no one can walk out on a court & always get little injuries like this - when theres been nothing in practice. NO ONES body is that fragile--not yours or mine-- and certainly not a professional athlete.

unless someone put a real voodoo curse on him, its coming from him. sounds like he is still too aware of the prying eyes of others making him nervous about whether he will succeed or fail, and not playing for the pure enjoyment of his art -- which is what i said long ago was where he needed to bring his head.

IMO, hes got to want to hit these strokes --at the simplest level, for the sake of enjoying the playing of this sport-- and want to compete--for the sake of enjoying competing-- and worries about how he'll do or if he'll win are all just distractions...but he's obviously putting much pressure on himself in those departments or he would NOT be as nervous in this challenger as in his grand slam final appearance.

after a whole year away, this is apparently not at all easy for him to do.

GG, i wouldnt say seeing a psychologist is for crazies, it's just for keeping perspective, and having a clear head for competition, stress management; saying this part matters, this part doesnt, heres how i control panic, heres how i focus on 'now' instead of distractions. Thats is 'mental help' i guess, but not...'YOU NEED MENTAL HELP...BADLY!"
