Massú llega al país y equipo de la Davis duplica prácticas

Tomando cada vez más forma a medida que avanzan los días, el equipo chileno de Copa Davis partió con la incorporación de sus principales raquetas de cara al choque de Copa Davis ante Canadá, por la final de la Zona I Americana, que se disputará entre el 11 y el 13 de abril, en el Court Central del Estadio Nacional.

Luego de que el lunes iniciaran los entrenamientos Hans Podlipnik (775º de la ATP) y el juvenil Cristóbal Saavedra (1222º), hoy se sumó a las prácticas un recuperado Paul Capdeville (118º), quien llega como tercera raqueta nacional y con varias opciones de pelear el puesto de segundo singlista para enfrentar a los norteamericanos.

Capdeville, lucha palmo a palmo el número dos de Chile con Nicolás Massú, quien se sumará mañana a los entrenamientos tras llegar hoy al país proveniente de Italia, luego de caer en primera ronda en el challenger de Napoli.

"Creo que está muy en juego (el puesto), si lo vemos por ranking estamos a 10 puestos de diferencia y de nivel estamos bastante parecidos. Puede ser que Hans tenga un gusto más personal por Nicolás (Massú) y hay que aceptar las decisiones del capitán. Uno sólo puede trabajar para llegar al fin de semana de la mejor manera y tratar de estar con el mejor nivel de tenis para quitarle el lugar", explicó la tercera raqueta chilena tras la práctica de hoy.

González aún no confirma su arribo

El que aún no confirma su llegada al país proveniente de Estados Unidos es Fernando Gonzalez (18º), quien tras su eliminación en el Masters Series de Miami se tomó unos días de descanso antes de sumarse al equipo de Copa Davis.

En la Federación de Tenis esperan que el "Bombardero de La Reina" llegue al país este sábado, por lo que el domingo podría ponerse bajo las órdenes de Gildemeister para preparar su actuación ante los canadienses, quienes también deberían llegar a Chile en las próximas horas.

El equipo de los norteamericanos está formado por Daniel Nestor (3º en dobles), Frederic Niemeyer (181º singles y 524º en dobles), Peter Polansky (367º y 702º) y Vasek Pospisil (1219º y 1195º).

Entrenamientos aumentan intensidad

Con la llegada de Massú este viernes, los entrenamientos de los nacionales comenzarán a realizarse en dobles tandas para preparar de lleno el choque del próximo fin de semana.

De esta forma, los nacionales practicarán en una primera instancia durante las mañanas a partir de las 10 horas, para posteriormente tener un descanso después de almuerzo para retomar los entrenamientos en la tarde desde las 15 horas.

I wouldn't mind that Paul thinking that he can be #2 since Nico is having a bad year (and a bad last year too) if only Paul was actually play well. But he's not. But somehow thinks that he is.

Massú: "Voy a salir adelante porque tengo las ganas y el tenis"

SANTIAGO.- De muy buen ánimo, distendido y entrenando a gran nivel, Nicolás Massú se integró este viernes al equipo chileno de Copa Davis.

Durante más de una hora el viñamarino entrenó en el court central del Estadio Nacional junto a Paul Capdeville y Hans Podlipnik, bajo la atenta mirada del capitán Hans Gildemeister. El campeón olímpico centró su trabajo con tenis desde el fondo de cancha, énfasis en su derecha y el servicio.

Una vez finalizada la práctica matinal, Massú, aunque en principio señaló que hablaría durante la tarde, prefirió acceder a comentar con los numerosos medios que lo esperaban su primer día de práctica.

"Me sentí muy bien, estoy con muchas ganas y hace una semana que vengo entrenando en arcilla y cada vez me acomoda más la cancha", dijo.

Según Massú, "Copa Davis es algo distinto. Para mí jugar por Chile significa una gran motivación y hoy estoy con la confianza suficiente para ganar mis partidos".

Sobre sus últimas derrotas en el circuito, el viñamarino reconoció que "si bien no he tenido malos campeonatos, lamentablemente algunos resultados no se me han dado. No sé cuál puede ser la causa, pero no quiero pensar en forma negativa, sino que entender que voy a salir adelante porque tengo las ganas y el tenis".

En ese sentido, Massú aprovechó de enviar un recado: "Ahora que están aquí todos conmigo les quiero decir que me molesta que siempre me pregunten por cómo estoy anímicamente o que se hable siempre de mis derrotas y no de mis triunfos".

La ratificación como el segundo singlistas para enfrentar a los canadienses lo tiene bastante motivado.

"Obviamente que quiero jugar, siempre cuando he defendido a Chile o le hecho en gran forma, salvo contra Rusia; pero en todo caso quiero dejar claro que no entreno para ser el segundo, sino que para ser el uno de Chile".

Sobre la posibilidad de un cambio de técnico, así como lo confirmó ayer a Emol su padre Manuel Massú, el viñamarino fue categórico: "En estos momentos mi entrenador es el Pato (Patricio Rodríguez) y no estoy pensando, por ahora, en un cambio de técnico. Yo estoy trabajando con mi gente y lo estamos haciendo de buena manera".

A partir de las 15:30 horas el equipo volverá nuevamentre a las prácticas este viernes y según informó Hans Gildemeister se espera que mañana sábado se integre el número uno nacional, Fernando González.

Niemeyer killed us in 2002, he beat Gonzo in a 5 set thriller in Calgary

Nestor beat Rios in that tie too also in 5 thriller sets, Nico was injuried that's why he didnt play

Massú y Capdeville no llegaron a nueva práctica

Sin la presencia de Nicolás Massú y Paul Capdeville se desarrolló este mediodía una nueva práctica del equipo de Copa Davis, con miras al duelo ante Canadá.

Massú presentó síntomas de fiebre anoche, por lo que el cuerpo médico decidió otorgarle descanso para que mañana se reintegre a los entrenamientos.

El hecho habría ocurrido luego de su asistencia al partido entre Colo Colo y Everton, que se disputó a partir de las 19.00 en el estadio Monumental.

Capdeville, en tanto, sufre de un resfrío y sólo se le vio algunos minutos en el court central del Estadio Nacional. Pese a ello, el capitán Hans Gildemeister no se alarma demasiado.

"Paul fue al doctor porque estaba resfriado y le dimos descanso hoy. Nicolás sintió un poco de malestar, pero no es nada importante. Ya mañana se incoporará definitivamente. Quizá los cambios de temperatura lo afectaron un poco, pero el doctor me aseguró que estará mañana", sentenció.

Mañana se realizará una conferencia de prensa a las 11.00 y posteriormente se efectuará una nueva práctica, esta vez con la presencia de Fernando González.
