I see. An opponent like Romania is the best opportunity to try some new faces, even if Forget missed that chance last year.

No surprises... Last year Forget said he wanted to get a team like Russia with 3 solid single players and one good double specitalist. Playing Romania was a good opportunity to try this change but I am not surprised. Paulo being out helped him not to take any tough decisions.

I am glad for Gilles.

It's good for Tsonga to play Romania for his first DC tie even if he showed he handles the pressure of big events pretty well.

Exactly, Puschkin, you got my point. This time he did it.
It's good news for you too, I'll give you a break with my Forget bashing for this tie.

Thanks for the news Truc. I've been wondering about this... and about the Olympics (even tho' that's a long way off in tennis time).

Bernard Laporte (French Sports State Secretary) paid the team a visit today (they've been training in Roland-Garros since Saturday and will leave for Romania on Monday):

I was listening to Forget's interview on the FFT website and he admits a French player a member of the French team publicly said some time ago that playing Romania was like having a bye in the first round. Anybody knows who said that? So he knows the Romanian players are not amused and really eager to make them eat their words.

The rest of the interview is pretty much all about "Jo... Jo... Jo..." (when did he tell Jo he would be on the team, etc. ).

This article is a little bit more interesting:
http://toutsurletennis.com/news/view...4d975649b8.htm
Everybody is fine, Arnaud means it's no problem to have new players on the team since they regularly practice together during the year anyway.
Richie speaks about Jo's run at the AO, he says the performance against Nadal might be surprising for some people, but he knew what Jo was able of.
Forget is glad to be able to start the training on Saturday already. No problem with the integration of the newbies who get along well with everybody.
He could watch at the AO how Jo and Wino are working, they have a very special way of work because Jo is so afraid to get injured, so they do a lot of physical work every day. He mentions again that Jo had the best results ever when the guys made physical tests in Roland-Garros (spring, reflex, etc.) and he will certainly be a trump card for the team in the future. But he also noticed that as soon as Jo's motivation drops a little bit during a match, he becomes a "normal player", so Forget's job will be to keep this movation at a very high level all the time.
Maybe the guys will become rivals if they have to play each other many times in important tournaments, but so far they're really friends. Much more friends than opponents.
PHM really was injured, it wouldn't have been reasonable to nominate him.
Richie will have less pressure now since different guys are able to win 1-2 points.

Thanks for all this Françoise
The players seem fascinated by Laporte on some pics
It's really a pleasure to see some new faces in this team... even if I feel a bit sad for Paulo being injured.

I 'd like to know too. From their personnality it can't be Richard or Jo. I suspect more players like Simon (who has indeed a "grande gueule") or maybe Clément or Llodra. But that's just my opinion.

My first thought by reading that statement was Gilles too, Julie.
It's his style ^^ and it has to be one of the new guys who wanted to be nominated. Definitely not Richard or Paulo, it doesn't sound like Jo at all, and why would Clément and Llodra say that? The other "grande gueule" is Gaël, but he has hardly given any interview for ages.
I'm just a bit surprised Forget picked Gilles for this tie then.

Okay I didn't really think about Clément but more Llodra. He can be really cocky sometimes. But that was just a guess.

Interview from Forget (on Sport24.fr)

A Roland Garros

Forget explains that these practice sessions in RG were important before going to Romania to create a good atmosphere in the team. It also happened several times in the past that once abroad, some players were actually injured or not 100% fit (*cough* Gasquet against Russia last year I guess) and he doesn't want this to happen again. About the new players of the team, they both are really nice and bring a breath of fresh air to the team. But they haven't been subject to hazing ??? yet.
About Jo, he had been impressed by him during last year grass season and knew his abilities. As for his run in Melbourne, he has decided to get him in the team after he beat Richard. Forget was striked by Jo's power and says it's also a good thing that he is good in doubles.
Forget is happy his team is and will be more and more favorite in DC cos he was tired of being the outsider in the previous years. There is no competition between the players only a good emulation. And with Jo in the team, Richard will have less pressure on his shoulders.
About Romania, they don't have many informations about the conditions of this tie. They only know the balls will be different from the ones used in Melbourne... far better for hard courts.

Well.. thinking about it, it can't be Llodra either. Otherwise, it would mean that last year they lost the double against a Bye
