Default The Cricket Thread

I'm fairly neutral, although I hate England I don't mind their cricket team, and it's always nice to see the arrogant Aussies like McGrath and Ponting brought back down to earth.

I've got a feeling it could go one of two ways, either Australia will crush England, or it'll be another amazing series and really close.

The King Of Spain picked ahead of Monty despite not having played a competitive match for a year

Harmy's first over, oh boy.
What a kick in the teeth for Monty, but let's see how Giles does.
Looks like its going to be a long day in the field for England.

Ahh sigh Yep I think it's gonna be a loooong summer

I always feared that Australia would strike back majorly after losing the Ashes but now it's seeming more real... and all the things that went wrong for Australia last year like injuries and losing the toss have been happening for England instead

*sigh* I want Vaughany back

Poor bowling display

They should play Monty and Gilo, Harmison is so out of sorts he doesn't even look like he'll take a wicket.

According to the reports here he should be back in a month and might be available for the 4th test. I doubt it though.

There was a report here a few weeks ago that he's even hoping to be ready for the 3rd test. I have doubts too, but I'm always hopeful - although not if he's going to go and injure himself again by coming back too soon, coz that would just be stupid and pointless.

I really don't like cricket but i want England to lose so much .

I mean, they won the Ashes one and a half years ago (it's just between them and Australia, i mean it's not that big a deal) and they are still celebrating .

C'mon you Aussies!

Because you don't like cricket it is obviously why you don't understand just how big a deal it actually WAS for England to win the Ashes last year. The Ashes is the biggest cricket clash of all and last years series was something special - from both teams.

England may still be celebrating now but that's only natural considering. Australia win everything in cricket and they KNOW they are the best around (and like to make everyone know it). I guess I'm over the Australians as much as you are over the English

I'd say the cricket world cup is bigger than one match between a couple of teams.

you gotta support Australia Peta. I couldn't live with 2 and a half more years of celebrating

The cricket World Cup is one day cricket The Ashes is a test series - the proper stuff!

I could never support Australia in cricket! I don't support them against anyone... and I've supported England since 1995 so I'm not changing now sorry

Ponting.

What a champion. Another fantastic captains knock today, his 32nd Test century which puts him level with Steve Waugh for most 100's by an Australian. I believe it was his 6th hundred in 11 innings, what an unbelievable patch of form he is in. He was fautless today, and totally took control of the match.

Langer was also extremely good at the top of the innings, and Hussey should go on and make another ton. If only we had played Mr.Cricket during the last Ashes series things might have been very different indeed. Instead we had Katich.

Great day for Australia, hopefully we can put up 500+ and then let SK Warne weave his magic!

England already doing the rain dance. Warne on a Day 4/5 GABBA pitch will be turning it at right angles

Ponting once again shows why he is the best batsman in the world, that was masterful

The King of Spin actually bowled pretty well today. Harmison has got to be dropped for Mahmood in the next test. That first ball pretty much said it all.
