Germany will play on clay (in Braunschweig).
Haas already said he won't play that tie.

Quarterfinal venues announced

The venues for the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group quarterfinals to be held the weekend of 11-13 April are now known.

The USTA announced Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, as the site for the quarterfinal between USA and France. The tie will be played on an indoor hard court, with a capacity of 14,500 spectators. The venue was last used for the 2007 quarterfinal tie, where USA defeated Spain 4-1.

The Russian Tennis Federation confirmed that the Small Sport Arena “Luzhniki” in Moscow will host its tie against Czech Republic on clay. The two nations have not met since the first round in 2003.

Estadio Parque Roca will be the venue for the quarterfinal between Argentina and Sweden with the Argentine Tennis Association electing to play the tie on clay. Argentina is looking to avenge its 4-1 quarterfinal defeat by Sweden in 2007.

Germany will face Spain, for the first time since 1997, at the AWD Dome in Bremen.

Davis Cup semifinal venues set

The venues for the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas semifinal ties between Argentina and Russia, and Spain and USA, to be played on 19-21 September, have been announced.

Argentina will be looking to extend its unbeaten home run of 12 ties when it hosts Russia on clay at the Estadio Parque Roca in Buenos Aires. The two nations last faced each other in the 2006 final when Russia emerged victorious 3-2 in Moscow.

The Spanish Tennis Federation has chosen the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas in Madrid for the showdown between Spain and titleholders USA. Spain lost to USA in the quarterfinals last year and will be looking to reach the final for the first time since winning the title in 2004, when it defeated USA in Seville.

Both sites are subject to successful ITF site visits.

Final Argentibna vs. Spain (November 21-23, 2008) will be played in Córdoba, Argentina, the surface is carpet. Yet to be approved by ITF, the national association of Argentina has Mar del Plata as second option.

2008 Davis Cup Final - venue update

Two venues, the Orfeo Superdomo in Cordoba and Estadio Polideportivo in Mar del Plata, have been proposed by the Argentine Tennis Association to host the 2008 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Final between Argentina and Spain scheduled 21-23 November.

The ITF, through the Davis Cup Committee, makes the final decision about the selection of venues for the competition especially the final. This decision will be made after the completion of site visits to both venues and is likely to be announced by the end of next week.

According to the rules of the competition, there must be a minimum of 12,000 seats for the Final. In the case of both proposed venues, the capacity will have to be increased to meet the ITF’s minimum standards and an assessment of the written plans and proposed timetable for this reconfiguration will be taken into consideration as part of the evaluation process before a final decision is made.

The ITF will have no further comment regarding the location of the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Final until a final decision is announced.

Update regarding the 2008 Davis Cup Final venue

An announcement regarding the venue for the 2008 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Final between Argentina and Spain will be made by the ITF on Friday 10 October.

An ITF representative has conducted extensive site visits this week at the two venues proposed by the Argentine Tennis Association (AAT), the Orfeo Superdomo in Cordoba and Estadio Polideportivo in Mar del Plata. These venues will be evaluated by the ITF's Davis Cup Committee on Friday, and a decision made on the venue for the Final.

The 2008 World Group Final will be held on 21-23 November.

Further information, including ticket details, will be released at a later stage.

Davis Cup Committee selects Mar del Plata

The Davis Cup Committee, in a conference call meeting held earlier today, decided unanimously that Mar del Plata would host the 2008 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Final between Argentina and Spain scheduled for 21-23 November.

This decision was reached after careful consideration of the plans proposed by the Argentine Tennis Association and the site visit reports made by ITF Representatives, immediately after the semifinal and last week in separate visits to Mar del Plata and Cordoba.

The Davis Cup Committee is comprised of chairman, Juan Margets (ESP), Pierre Darmon (FRA), Neale Fraser (AUS), Enrique Morea (ARG) and Alan Schwartz (USA). Although both Margets and Morea contributed to the discussions during the meeting, they recused themselves in the voting as the nations they represent will meet in the 2008 Final.

“This was one of the most challenging decisions we have made during my more than a decade-long tenure on the Davis Cup Committee,” said Margets, who is also Executive Vice President of the International Tennis Federation that owns and manages the Davis Cup Competition. “There were many factors to consider including the wishes of the players to play on an indoor hard court, the feasibility of increasing the venue to the 12,000 seat minimum required in the regulations and other factors that contribute to the success of a Davis Cup Final. In the end, the Committee unanimously felt that Mar del Plata was the most appropriate venue for the 2008 Final.”
