Hanescu def Soeda 6-3 5-7 7-6(6) 7-6 (3) to put Romania back into World Group
Congrats to Victor for being able to hold his nerve and put Romania back into the World Group.
The 3rd set was huge with Soeda having a set point and lots of mini breaks in that set.
Hanescu's greater experience was the key.

That's a shame. But the Japanese still don't have any top 200 players so I guess the Romanians deserved it.

What a choke by Soeda. Crapescu couldn't beat Zabaleta in Basel some years ago. That says enough about how good he is indoors.

Well, a close match, but I think Romania prooved greater experience than the Asians, but Japan gave a nice fight!
Nice to see Romania in the WG...

Gutted for Japan...they came SO close!  Still, if they manage to keep this "form" up, they should hopefully get another shot at the World Group this time next year.
Congrats to Romania, and to Pavel (for fighting all the way back) and Hanescu (for holding his nerves).  |
