Service Game & Return of Service Leaders - Sep 10
Hey All,
I still find the below STATS interesting. Check out the '1ST SERVE PERCENTAGE' list. No top five player before 6th on list.
Notice that under - 'BREAK POINT SAVED' - they only show Nadal & Novak's % and as it pertains to over 70 matches played. I wonder why?

Whats so interesting about 1st serve percentage leaders? None of those guys have huge serves and dont go for a lot and simply just spin it in. Also i see all the names under BREAK POINT SAVED not just djoko and Rafa Roids

Hi Gogo,
Im not sure what you mean. I see % for everyone on break points saved, including for those playing less than 70. <Confused>
1st serve % is not really too key, it's 1st serve % won that would be more interesting if it was not any of the top guys.

It might be me - but they've taken into account the last 70 matches Novak & Rafa have played. Aren't the %s based on matches played? In other words - why have they taken into account those two's last seventy matches - but are only figuring the % based on Ivan's last 53 matches played - for instance? Why not arrive at the individual %s based on the same amount of matches played by each?
Sorry for the confusion.

Verdasco would be better off much further down that 1st serve percentage list if it meant he was going for his 1st serves more. I see he's 51st in 1st serve points won list which is pretty pathetic for a left-hander who is capable of serving in the 130s when he feels like it. I guess it must be a physical thing.

Good return stats for Volandri all round.
Federer is pretty far down on break points converted for a number 1.

Because Ivan only played 53 matches this year. They count ALL the matches played in this year, for all players. For percentages, it doesn't matter how many matches were played, except if there were too few matches (like 5 or so) from which you can't draw any statistical conclusion. I mean, a guy might have played like 2 matches, saved 2/2 BPs and he would top the list at 100% BPs saved. That's why they only include players with the same order of magnitude of matches played as those who played most matches this year. That pretty much includes most of the top 100 players.

That 1/17 in the French final and and 5/24 in the USO semifinal really skews things.

Bottom line, 52-6, #1 by 2200 ponits, 3 slams. 'Nuff said.
