Re: *** 07 US HC SEASON "Hard Court, Low Bounces, YEEHAH!!" THREAD***
now that Rafa has defended his Wimby pts, he has it all to gain while Rogi has it all to lose because he won so much AFTER Wimby [TO, USO, Tokyo, Madrid, Basel, TMC Shanghai]. and yes, I don't think Raf will allow himself to do what he did last yr after Wimby... no doubt he "plans to win" USO as he was certain he w do at Wimby w his ultimate preparation, his confidence and his success up til then, playing his best season to date...
Raf's always the same... it's up to other players, any player will do, to do the deed...

Nadal's decision to play a clay tourney is wise IMO, he'll surely win and he loves riding on his success on clay, see: RG-->Wimbledon.
I don't mind Roger not playing before Canada, as long as he goes deep at both TMS tourneys.

You seem know/care a lot about what Nadal says/thinks.

Rogifan, that tennis guy, have you seen the race? Unfortunately, he must deliver in both Montreal and Cincy this year. Or I missed something and staying No1 at the end of the year is no longer a goal.
Of course, USO is the priority. But the most ridiculous scenario, the WTA scenario: Fed wins 3 Slams a year and TFA is No1 at the end of the year is possible.

Yes it definitely is and the scenarios are not all that unlikely. The key thing is that Nadal makes the USO finals. If he does that, he has a great chance to be #1 and that's precisely why he's playing Stuttgart. He knows he has a free 50 points there in the race which means that Fed will have to do really well in the TMS summer events AND Nadal would have to not make the finals for Fed to make any headway in the race.

Re: *** 07 US HC SEASON "Hard Court, Low Bounces, YEEHAH!!" THREAD***
I think Roger should play an optional before Canada if he wants to have less pressure keeping up his No.1 rankings (not that there is little pressure now already).
He has a very full schedule after USO and if he wants to seek some extra points I don't know where to incert the optional into his schedule. And I doubt he will play Madrid, Basel and Paris three in a row, and if he does, I highly doubt he can win them all. For points sake, if he has to choose two to play, it should be the two TMS, then missing Basel means missing another optional, though not sure he will choose not to play Basel.
It's ridiculous to think that optionals may well be the key to year-end rankings.
I hope Roger knows that Nadal will be playing Stuggart and will gain 50 more points. That will give Nadal 135 points ahead of him.

Roger has not played a event smaller the Masters series in a way long time. I doubt he will play some micky mouse event.
Roger will be fine.

Heretic thought: Nadal might not win Stuttgart.

I'm sure he's well aware of the ranking, which is why I'm not sure WHAT he's doing - looking for a coach maybe?
He won't skip Basel, especially since Rafa is playing there.

I just don't see Roger adjusting his schedule. If he was going to we'd probably know about it now wouldn't we? My hope is he's spending this time working out coaching arrangements and by the time the US Open rolls around he'll have a new coach with him.

I'd prefer new coaching arrangements after the US Open. He's been without one the last 3 years. Guess I'm a little iffy with changing a winning formula.
Playing a MM may be a good idea considering he will get a bye in the 1st round and likely to get a pumped up qualifier in the 2nd .
How many times have we seen Rusty Roger this year, plenty.
