Re: Kevin Anderson (SA)
Kevin took a couple of weeks off after Baton Rouge with some knee tendonitis. He came back this week in Munich and won his first round match vs. Zverev when he retired with a rib injury, and lost a close match to Almagro 2-6 7-5 6-7 (5). He's now back in the top 100 at #88, and has a 4-7 ATP match record this season.
He is playing Madrid qualifying, here is his section:
(7) ANDERSON, Kevin RSA v (WC) CAJIGAL, Alvaro ESP
BOGOMOLOV JR., Alex USA v (11) NAVARRO, Ivan ESP
Very winnable section, hopefully he gets the job done, good luck Kevin!

Yes, but a good sign he almost won that match on a slow clay court. So I have higher hopes for his RG than previous.

Re: Kevin Anderson (SA)
Too bad he'll drop out of the top 100 again next week.

Re: Kevin Anderson (SA)
His ranking should be right around the 100 mark on Monday, but with his win in Munich and qualifying here at Madrid, he should be back comfortably in the top 100 in two weeks time!

Re: Kevin Anderson (SA)
Anderson def. Navarro 6-3 6-4 for a place in the MD of Madrid!
There are some decent spots for a win in the draw as well, hopefully he gets a kind draw and continues on his good form!

Re: Kevin Anderson (SA)
Kevin drew Melzer in R1 and will play today as the second match on the third stadium court. Jurgen is a very tough draw when he's on but he's inconsistent and didn't play this past week, so possibly Kevin could catch him rusty and can pull off a surprise win.
Good luck Kev!

Re: Kevin Anderson (SA)
He's been losing in a lot of close matches against top 50 opponents this year. Just need to actually take those break opportunities and he'll get into main draws regularly.

Re: Kevin Anderson (SA)
Kevin lost 2-6 6-2 4-6 to Melzer. He didn't play too badly, served pretty decently, played aggressively, but he made too many mistakes and his movement on clay isn't quite up to standard, which Jurgen took advantage of many times. He was down 2-5 and won 2 two straight games in the third set and had a chance at 15-30 to get both breaks back but it wasn't to be.
He had a good tournament as a whole by qualifying and giving a good account of himself vs. a top 30 player. He won 35 ranking points by qualifying for the draw this week, so that will help solidify his place in the top 100, where he is currently ranked #97.
He's far down the alternates list in Nice and is likely to enter RG directly as the 4th alternate, so I guess the French will be the next time we see him.

Re: Kevin Anderson (SA)
He has decided to play Nice qualifiers, good choice as he gets direct acceptance into RG.
