Well done Florian on your run to the semi finals

And now good luck in Davis Cup! There will be lots of pressure in these kind of matches but I hope he does well

Well done Neely on getting the German Tennis moderator job

Mayer facing a new test and a new "most important match of his career"...

Quote:
Tennis-Ass Mayer kennt keine Zweifel
22. Sep 10:41

He had no chance against Hrbaty today... Hrbaty was just tooooo dominant and too good. Hrbaty runs a terrific Davis Cup record when playing at home!

From what I've already seen of Florian I know that he could have played better and was not able to play a good match and he had a very nervous start, but not sure if it would have been enough as Hrbaty really looked strong.

For Sunday I hope that Florian can win again. His chances are definitely better than because I don't expect that either Beck or Kucera can play such a good match like Hrbaty did it today.

Good luck, Florian!

A horrible and probably injury-hampered weekend for Mayer, I've never seen him serving so weak like that

He has absolutely no chance against Kucera and Getronic stats say that his 1st serve speed average(!!) was about 168 km/h while Kucera's was 193 km/h That's a difference of 25 km/h in average and if Getronic says 168 his serves have been even weaker because we know the values are always a bit "inflated".

Highest 1st serve speed:
Kucera 210 km/h
Mayer 181 km/h

that must have been the pain in his arm

Mayer lost 3-6 6-7(2) to Söderling

The first game of Söderling was immediately one over seven or eight deuces and Mayer had three break points but couldn't convert. At the end, he was broken himself and Söderling won the 1st set.
The second set was much closer and Mayer was mostly holding serve easier than Söderling and there have been a few great points. The tiebreak was a total fuck-up by Mayer then as he made two stupid errors when he was serving and Söderling was quickly leading with two minibreaks and had no troubles holding that lead.

One very curious shot was in one of the last games in the 2nd set as Mayer faked one of his famous jump-in backhand shots, but he played it with slice as a dropshot that was unreachable for Söderling on won the game. Even Söderling had to laugh about this and imitated it in jess when going back to the bench because he may have not seen something like that before Lol, that was funny!

Overall, Mayer was perhaps a bit too defensive and passive. But it would be also wrong to say that it was a bad match. It was also a tough draw facing Söderling who plays really well indoor.
