I too give him another 3 years

He already made enough money....it is time for other struggling athletes to have a chance to make a living.

I am always very surprised to hear or read something like this. Do you really think Tennis is still about money for Federer? He goes for the record books and that is his only goal in my opinion.

I'd guess 31-32 somewhere in there. He's not really putting that much wear and tear on his body, and he schedules pretty well. Although I think in a year or two he'll start to scale that down even more.

Then he should donate all the money he got and give them to the poor and struggling tennis players who are traveling to Bangladesh to play future events......not that he is obligated to do it or anything.

I can certainly understand that........but the truth is that there are so many hopefuls that also want to make a living and reach for the top. Federer has been dominating for a very long time, too long some may say. I do think it is time for a change. Plus, he has a kid now....so my guess he will probably retire in three years. He may say it is his goal right now...but his goal I suspect will soon change. .

Over the last 125 GS's only 7 were won by people aged 30+. Even the great Agassi only won 2 slams at 30+.

Tennis is a young mans sport.
How many players were still playing in nearly every GS final at 27? Stats and records are indicative of what is generally possible, but Federer keeps breaking the records, so I don't think it's accurate to say what will happen to him based on what happened to others.

Should the Top 100 collectively sign a petition... "Make Federer stop playing."

***

I think he'll play until 30. At the moment, he is still the most consistent player at slams. He has enough results elsewhere to keep the ranking up. He has repeatedly claimed that his motivation is high... suggesting even higher motivation once his child is born.

However he is result-driven, and should the titles stop coming, I think he will stop playing. I can't imagine him staying as fast as he is, even now, until he's 32. Should he slow down again over the next 1-2 years and struggle more than he has, even at slams, I think he'll call it quits soon after. I think this will happen around 29, maybe sooner, at which point he will perhaps grind for a year and then say "goodbye."

Yea, I just don't understand the line of thinking that tennis should be a vacuum. Players need to leave for others to move up. Just doesn't work that way. It's like the top 10 needs to quit so the next top 10 can move up.

He wants to play Olympics 2012 because by then he won't care about his rankings so if he wins, he doesn't care about the points dropping the next year which is why he purposely lost 2004 and 2008 Olympics so incase his ranking was taking a scare the next year, the automatic drop of points from winning the Olympics wouldn't affect him more just like it is going to affect Rafalafa now possibly making him lose the number one ranking.

But honestly, I think Roger can play some solid tennis in his 30s. Again, his less taxing style of play, aside from maybe his serve, will not wear him out or injure him. I think he could go onto nearly Agassi's longetivity. I mean if you compared the two, it would have been more surprising to see Agassi continue on in his 30s because of Agassi baseline only game. I mean at least Roger could shorten up a group of points.

Wow.....that is some insider information i was not aware of. .
That way I would say Roger is gaming the system..hahaha......

Anyways, as for the top 100 players not wanting to Roger Federer because he won Wimbledon for 6 times.........you would be right if you think that they do not want Roger to play Wimbledon this year, obviously they are not going "sign a petition", but I would say that Andy Murray's hostility towards Federer for wanting to beat him in the final is the very evidence of that.

In 1984 McEnroe would compete in 3GS's. He'd win 2 and reach the final of the other, finishing the year 82-3. He'd never win another GS again and reach only one more final.

Things change extremly quickly in tennis.

The players who've lasted the longest i.e. connors, lendl and Agassi all had heavy baseline games. Connors was a full on grinder.

Whereas people like Edberg and Macenroe who played a physically less intensive smoother game never had late success.

For me this kills the theory of physical burnout. It's more about the mental side, in regards to how long a player can last at the top.

Actually it is because they did not have to run to the net as frequently. Those athletes who move vertically will have much more problems as players like Sampras require much more shorter periods of energy burst while Agassi would play balls from the very back so it can take them longer to recover.

Federer is getting older and that's a fact........and it will tak elonger and longer form him to receover between points. Nadal, barring injuries, had surprassed him on grass....it would appear to me he wont the only one as Federer starts turning 30.
