I think Roger's injure is not very worse, he will be OK in Wimby.

Re: Federer vs Nadal ranking points (First post always updated)
Well, with both Federer and Nadal in the final, we can already conclude that Nadal will still be #1 for 2007 after Wimbledon. Let's hope that Roger can win the final, or prospects are starting to look grim. Like last year, Roger really HAS to beat Nadal at Wimbledon.

Depends upon how badly Fed wants to keep the #1, but he might consider taking a wildcard to a summer hard event like Indy. After the USO, I can only see him playing 2 optionals meaning he will only have points from 3 optionals for the year. This is going to be a race down to the wire.

Yeah that`s what I was saying too
Ever since Nadal won Indian Wells AMS I had the feeling that 2007 was going to become a very hotly contested battle to finish #1 [Shanghai TMC will probably determine it]

What's crazy is, Federer could win 3 slams out of 4 and end up #2.

Statistically yes but seriously if FED wins USO then I think he`s pretty safe to end 07 #1

I really hope he does. I think it will help adding up a fair amount of match plays as well as ranking points. He is lacking match plays a bit seriously this year, IMO.

I hope he's able to finish the year as #1 but if he doesn't and still wins three slams, I wouldn't really care.

Federer probably wouldn't either.
NO player has of course ever won 3 slams (been only done 5 times) in a season and not finish the year #1.
These are the only players who have won two slams and not finished #1:
Vilas 1977
Borg 1978
Becker 1989
Vilas and Borg were contending with a different rankings system where 2 years worth of play were taken into consideration.
Becker is the only one who with more or less the same type of rankings system we have now won two slams and did not finish the year #1. He made the SF's of RG and lost in the 4th round of the AO. Overall, he won 5 tournaments, was RU in 2 other tournaments and had 3 SF's.
Lendl was the overall #1 for the year. He won 10 titles and had 2 RU's. He won the AO, lost in the 4th round at RG, was a SFist at Wimby, and RU at the USO.

Connors also won two slams in 1982 yet McEnroe (with no slams) finished #1. The ranking system must have been seriously screwed up back then.

That's true and I don't think that scenario has happened to any other former #1, has it? I've often made the point that Roger has it tough because of the fact that Nadal is such a strong #2. In Sampras day he could stay #1 mainly by winning 2 majors a year and 1 or 2 MS tournaments. People point out that Sampras had Agassi as a rival but Sampras had a winning record over Agassi, and Agassi was never this dominate as a #2 guy.

I'd care, but at this time in Roger's career the major tally is more important. Besides that, he could regain the #1 rank in 2008.
