That also leaves just Agassi and Sampras for total weeks top 10 (which he's quite a ways away).

Now we're into the 'great desert' phase of his career. Will he have the longevity of Connors to make a serious run at his records here? Nobody else has challenged Connors like this for these records before.

The one who came the closest was Agassi, and even he was still a more than a year short.

Records up at RG - total QFs (still 2 behind Connors), consecutive 3rd rounds, and 2nd rounds. He owns all the rest and is still chasing Lendl here.
JediFed, I have come a bit further in my old ranking searches and it looks very much like Lendl is still ahead of Roger in "all of the above", se my stat thread for (as yet unconfirmed) details. Hopefully I can unearth correct numbers before Federer has passed them, more fun to see him go past than to conclude afterwards.

The record for top-2 looks safe, though

Read in the UK papers that if Murray reaches the QFs in Madrid he'll move into 2nd place above Federer - can anyone confirm? Seems likely to me.

Yes they're right.
From the ranking thread in Roger's site:
Quote:
Roger can remain No 2 after Madrid only if he wins the trophy (again)
AND Murray doesn't make it past the 3rd round (i.e. he loses before the QF) - Roger would be ahead by only 10 points then!

It's correct Murray will most likely take back #2, but Roger managed to hold on to it long enough to pass another milestone. 418 weeks is eight years and five days. So this week Roger became the first man to rank in the top-2 for eight full years!

OK so Roger drops to #3 but assuming Nadal reaches #4 by end of Rome then the two will not meet until the (potential) final at Rolland Garros.

Nadal sill has some work to do, and Ferrer needs to help him out...

Not only at RG, but because Wimbledon is so close after, being on opposite sides there also will be huge for Roger since Djokovic on grass should not be as tough as Nadal

This depends upon Nadal winning Madrid, Rome and RG. Madrid looks like a foregone conclusion but it's a little early to say he'll do all three, and if he does he'll most likely be too tired to be a bigger threat than Djokovic.

Possibly, but he may I suspect he will be extra motivated to avenge his early R2 exit last year. But i guess we have to keep in mind this is all hypothetical situations until we see what happens in the next few weeks/ months

Slightly ironic that none of the top four seeds have got anywhere at Madrid now, isn't it?

Historically, that is no oddity for a clay Masters. SFs in Hamburg 2000 were seeded 5 and 12 plus and unseeded and a Q. In 2001 were seeded 7 and 8 plus an unseeded and a Q. 2002: 6, 11, unseeded x2. 2003: 8, 12, unseeded x2. Four years in a row with the four highest seeds all failing to reach the SF. Not that surprising at the time, though.

Roger back to no6 in the race to London, just nudging his countrymen Stan. Hope to see him close the gap after the FO, re-entering the top 4 would be nice (I don't like seeing Ferrer and Berdych ahead of Rog at all )

Me neither. But this year has been so depressing. I mean this is the first time since 2001 he has gone without a title so long ( I think in 2001 he got one in June). Glad he is back in the race to WTF. I would hate for him to miss it as it means so much to him
