Which Italian player will reach the top 10 first?
If any?
Discuss.
Its difficult... if Volandri can play all year (and on hard courts for a bit) like he did this week then he has some chance, but its really doubtful. Unless he wins RG or reaches the final, his lack of form on any other surface other than clay suggests its even a struggle to get top 20 for him.
Starace is someone with amazing potential, but hes now 25 and this week reached his high ranking of 57... I doubt he can get as high as top 20 even, despite his amazing abilties. Of course he still has chances as he showed recently with some fine form.
Seppi... someone with all the shots in the game... great baseline rallies, very consistent here, a decent serve, not too bad at volleying although could improve, a good tennis brain, but yet mentally on the big points he is very weak. If he can improve in this area he is young enough to rise in the rankings. Top 10 may be too far for him, but he is someone who mustat some time hit the top 50 in the next year or so and then from there we can see.
Bolelli is awesome, amazing abilties and also someone who looks half decent on hard court. He maybe can be the true star of Italian tennis as he is just 21 and currently at his highest ranking of 76. Hopefully he qualies for Hamburg tomorrow against Grosjean and then we can start talking more. I have hope for him the most if he can remain in good form and continue to rise. He certainly has a top 20 about him at the least.

We need to turn back the clock and give them some drugs for this. Maybe then the could have reached top 10, even if they got caught doping eventually

Re: Which Italian player will reach the top 10 first?
Super-Bol
He has all the shots. One of the bests fh on the tour. Great one-handed bh, he can slice it too. Good serve and not bad at the net.
He just lacks when he is in defence, he is very slow on running and moving.
He has the game ŕ la Berdych, less power, but more elegant and fine too see.
So he can play also on hardcourts and grass!

yeah, Bolelli looks more likely since he has shown some good game in hard court

Re: Which Italian player will reach the top 10 first?
Fabbiano, Trevisan & co maybe! Trevisan is already #1 in junior after all!
I think Volandri and Bolleli could. But it's true Volandri apart from clay...

Giacomo Miccini... he won in a qualifier for the Cesena futures event the other day. He lost to Azzaro in the decisive turn, but won a set still and is only 14 years old

Re: Which Italian player will reach the top 10 first?
Bolelli is the biggest chance for me. His game is as big as Fernando's. Once he gets his head together, he'll be great.
Pippo has no chance, ever

Re: Which Italian player will reach the top 10 first?
  di mauro top 10
being serious, none of those italians can reach top 10, neither bolelli than 89's, now is almost clear
but i always continue hoping in bolelli and trevisan, it's difficoult but never say never

Re: Which Italian player will reach the top 10 first?
Really, a lot of the current Italians in the top200 are aging. Most of them are near retirement, perhaps they could become doubles-only players? Matteo Trevisan might be able to reach top10, but other than him and maybe Fabianno, you guys would need a miracle to produce a top10 player in the near future. It will happen one day I'm sure, but I think that the Italian women will get one before the men. Didn't some Italian guy win Roland Garros one time I think? Like in the 1970s? He must've been in the top10.
