Yeah, massive missed opportunity. Really fucked up in that first set. And not just the two breaks, but in a number of other games and obviously the tiebreaker. Match was there to be won. I suppose that's the positive side - that it was actually conceivable that he could win this, despite playing in such conditions against Djokovic. Had to get the first set though, it was vital and he messed it up. Big negative is that he didn't have it in him to take this opportunity, and that on such courts as these he clearly can't beat Djokovic over 3 sets. It's a struggle anywhere, but simply isn't happening at the likes of IW, Miami, etc.

It gives me hope for grass/faster courts, anyway. I'm disappointed but then Djokovic eats up anyone on courts like these. I hope Andy can continue to improve his fitness. He's not at a point where he's struggling in every other match like in 2014, but he still isn't where he was pre-surgery.

This nasty recurring problem once again proved critical tonight....

Oh well, first set won vs Djokovic in a BO3 match since 2012... progress.

Wasn't a straight sets rout, so we know he can compete. He was (unarguably) the better player in both of the sets before the obligatory bagel.

Most expected it to be easy for Nole, which it wasn't. He just ended up outlasting Muzza, who again lost his legs by the end.

I'm no Fakervic fan but he needs to save tennis, sadly tree trunk legs will be fresh. Interesting he's never questioned...

Yeah, I was wrong about expecting a rerun of IW. He can compete, it's clear from this match, so I suppose that's something. But he had a basically a perfect start, Djokovic hasn't looked great for most of the tournament, Andy was playing some great tennis, and still Andy didn't believe/couldn't close out the first set. He kept going back to even, and then Djokovic snatched the set like it was inevitable. It's like reaching the summit of a hill, and finally being able to see that you are at the bottom of a mountain.

As long Murray remains unable to compete in the deciding set against Djokovic(which more than a year after surgery, I don't see this changing) it's vital he be laser focused, stealing every opportunity- going for a straight sets victory. Both Andy and Djokovic know Andy never wins after losing the first set, so he can't just throw in donated service games b/c of the sun whatever else.

I know in all likelihood that Murray wont want to go too deep here, he'll just treat it as a warm up, but i can't help but hope he wins his first clay title.

Unfortunately it wouldn't be surprising. Possibly he does treat it as a warmup and isn't really at the races, would be a shame since he's never won a clay title. Though it isn't the shocking stat that it perhaps sounds - since he only plays Masters and RG in an era with Nadal and Djokovic. Can't remember the last smaller tournament, Barcelona perhaps? Really can't remember the last 250 on clay.

If he does play well, there aren't that many guys that are serious threats - would be a good opportunity. I thought he did okay on the clay last year despite his physical struggles. Maybe there was a tradeoff in the sense that his back felt much better on the clay after the surgery..

I think Madrid was his first clay tournament last year? He really didn't seem up for that one. Thought he could've easily lost R1 v Almagro. Then Giraldo, I really don't think he gave a shit that day. Moved like a pensioner and was laughing about points lost as I recall Very un-Murray.
