Re: Toronto R2: [2] Betterer def. Polansky 6-2 6-0
During one of the rain delays, they showed an extended highlight package of the 2005 US Open final. Whenever I see things like that, I'm struck by Federer's aggressiveness. He didn't hit rally shots in those days; if given a neutral ball, whether on the forehand or backhand, he would hit it hard to whichever corner his opponent had left vulnerable.
This, in stylistic terms, was reminiscent of that.
Too easy for Fed, Polansky is just too weak at this level, this wasn't a competitive match at all.
Some nice points from Roger, agressive shotmaking from the back mostly, and the serve (apart from the first game he served) was okay. The funniest thing today was Fed's BP conversion, he got 6/6! :superlol:

Not sure if its the court speed or the balls. The forehand looks nothing like it did at wimbledon.
US open might be similar if just a touch slower on arther ashe to this court but those wilson balls they use have the most zip out of the hard court swing. He needs this kind of pace and depth to have any chance against the nadals/murrays (if on form) and nadal ( he will play "miraculously" never in doubt..
Did remarkably well on break points actually going for winners and converting most of them.

Fed did not have enough confidence at Wimbeldon because he did play few matches on clay . He wanted to get to F and he did it but
as if he could not believe he is in Final of GS again after 2 years and his worst 2013. Only he knows how bad was his back but he had a lot of defeats and everyone called him to retire because he can not play tennis anymore ! It should have been very tough for him!
Re: Toronto R2: [2] Betterer def. Polansky 6-2 6-0
As I said in the live commentary, his groundstrokes did look very good but that's not really hard against an opponent of this calibre. Far too early, and too easy of a test to draw any real conclusions from it.
Rog with a bagel. Don't even remember the last time he gave a bagel. Not gonna check, but I'm going to risk it and say he hasn't given one this season till now.
Polansky played awful even by his standards here. Federer was good, but he didn't have to do much.
