Hi there , i am looking to get a new racket and i know that you can improve the racket by getting better string for it , What do you lot recommend ? And also what is the usual tenision used for a baseliner who likes to take a swing on his forehand ?
Let me know what tension and type of string you lot have
you shouldnt go by what others have as that may not be right for you. if you like to be aggressive on your forehand, a higher tension allows you to have a higher swing speed as you have more control
Suppose I'll pick this thread (as it had the most generic title).
I've been using Wilson Sensation 16 at 55lbs in my Wilson nCode n5.
Local store doesn't carry it anymore so I'd have to order it. Figured it's time to try something else and so I'm looking for a recommendation.
Only set parameters: synthetic, readily available and reasonably priced.
Now about me: I'm an average NTRP 3.5 club level player. Not a lot of power or spin (nor am I looking for much more). Don't have arm problems. Don't break strings.
you could try prince synthetic gut with duraflex, which is a very popular and common string, though it is a little stiffer than wilson sensation.
if you were looking for something more similar to sensation you could try prince synthetic gut multifilament. or something a bit better like babolat xcel
Thanks, Jaz. I'll give those a look. I'm not married to the Sensation. It's just something I fell into and happened to like. What I'm finding that I really like is a newly strung racket. Now that I'm playing more, I guess I'll have to get it done more often. Months-long layoffs don't help. But the :baby: can go in our club's daycare in March. I'm counting the days.
If you want a more complicated but effective strung racquet, you could have different string in the main and crosses. I am a prince guy, so Prince Tour(pretty much the same as Luxilon Big Banger) is a great string for baseliners that provides power a long with spin to dip the ball in.(This is actually very true) However, alike Big Banger, Prince Tour can hurt your arm. To prevent this, you need to string it lower, somewhere like 54-58. In the crosses, prince hurricane, lightning, or even poly would be good. I would tension this at about 61-64.
Another good, but expensive prince string is the new RECOIL. This string never gets out of line. When you hit, it goes back to its normal position.
Hope it goes well!
Yes this Luxilon stuff is great, but make sure it is ok on you relbow. The Luxilon Big Banger will give you tennis elbow over 5 years unless you string it at a low pressure or use another string in the crosses.
Finally got around to using that Prince strung racket. I've been playing so much competitively (with little/no opportunity to just hit) and didn't want to try it untested.
Didn't so much like it at first...but by the end of the session...found it . My only compliant: the strings move around a bit more than I'm used to. Tension was the same as what I've been using before (55lbs) but I was outside and hitting with some bigger boys than my usual "ladies who lunch but play a little tennis first" .
End result: I think I'll be comfortable using it on a more permanent basis. Thanks for the recommendation, Jazar.
