Johnny Millman, no he isn't going to be one of the alltime greats, and I am not starting this thread because of nationalistic reasons either.
He made sure he finished his schooling before starting to play on the tour, which is a good thing and he is a good guy with a very positive attitude.
Played well this week by making the semis of the Burnie Challenger losing to Klein, who won the title. After a few days at home, he is going to Spain and playing Futures events on the clay, which is a surface that he enjoys playing on. It will help the development of his game and also he can use his fitness.
He has won a Futures title and made a final in a Romanian futures as a qualifier.
Johnny is back on the tour, playing the Aussie Futures events and he made the semis in Darwin, so the shoulder seems to be holding up, no more problems for the rest of the year.
Futures are imitating Masters Series! Top 8 seeds in the quarters and top 4 seeds in the semis. Hopefully Millman can break the trend and beat the number 2 seed in the semis.
Would be great if John could make the final here and have another good run at Bendigo. Might be a rough chance of direct entry into Aus Open Qualies considering Slabinsky got into the Qualies this year after with a rank of 331 after a series of withdrawals (he will get a wildcard in any case but direct entry would free up a wildcard for someone else).
I know I do this a lot but if anyone is interested if John wins next week in Bendigo he finish the year rankied about 275 which is obviously a huge achievement for someone who has missed a lot of tennis this year. Which means AO qualies direct entry and probably entry into qualies of his home tournament the Brisbane International, which would be good for him obviously.
He was very happy with his week in Kal and getting it over Edben this time. John will be going to the WC playoff with some good form, as for Brisbane, he will get a WC for qualies. Doesn't matter how he makes the Aus Open quals, but he will be there.
Just needs a full year on tour, he isn't ready for a main draw wildcard, if he doesn't win the playoff.
John withdrew from Bendigo, good move for him. He has to watch that he doesn't overplay, as he had some injury problems early in his career.
With that win in Kal, he should be in the Aussie WC playoff.
