Jason Kubler, 15, from Brisbane is the latest in a long line of Queenslanders to emerge. Following on from the likes of Patrick Rafter, Marc Kimmich, Robert Smeets and Bernard Tomic, Kubler has been quietly going about his business on the ITF Junior Circuit, and more recently, the ITF Men's Circuit. This comes after being the standout player of the 2007 European Young Stars Tour, in which he won a couple of the most prestigous tournaments in the 14&U age group, and led Australia to victory at the 2007 World Junior Tennis Competition. It was the first time Australia has ever claimed the title, our two previous best performances were 3rd in 1995 (with Lleyton Hewitt in the team) and 3rd in 2005.

In his past four tournaments on the ITF Junior Circuit, Jason has made two quarter finals. On the men's circuit, Jason has been winning one or two matches, in qualifying, for the recent QLD 15k's, and just this week he qualified for the main draw of the 15k in Gympie.

Let me tell you that I have seen him play and he is so so good for his age. Powerful, accurate groundstrokes, a strong serve and good movement. He, along with Bernard and Brydan Klein, is the future of Australian men's tennis

He will play Diego Schwartzman in the first round of the Guayaquil Challenger tomorrow morning. Tough one but should be good to see how he goes against a quality opponent.

Big opportunity here if he can take it. Highest remaining seed in the tournament and in the easiest half of the draw as well.

Great play from Kubler.
Watched his QF match against Londero and after a slow start he began to return decently, to take advantage of Londero's poor 1st serve percentage and played solid tennis from there to go to an easy 2 set win.
Pella will be more difficult and most probably the favorite but Kubler showing good form and could spring a surprise.
Good luck Koobs.

[QUOTEAmazing! And to think he was #355 on May 12th. Assuming he goes to the ATP Golden Swing, he'll probably still have to qualify as the cut offs this year ranged from 94-115 after withdrawals.][/QUOTE]

Yes its impressive - though Kokk still arguably outperforms him. He was 393 on the same date, now 150 (and in fact started the year way further back, 628 v Kubler 397. Just shows what a great group we've got coming up!

Big test for all of the group getting close to making the jump will be whether they can make the jump to tour qualifying/md for tournies. But that is a happy challenge to have to worry about, and one for next year!

A win tomorrow would be a great way to cap off the year though.

Jason has a slow start and was unable to get back into the match, going down to Guido Pella in the Final in Lima 26, 46.
Great week any way and a new high rank around 136 this week.

Really keen to see him in the clay court swing next year I still think if he keeps his form on the clay it should be a no brainer for the FO WC
He may not need it by that point! He's had a great year rebuilding and every prospect of continuing to improve his ranking and get into top 100 off the back of his clay wins.

Whether he can make the transition tactically, physically and mentally to also perform on hard remains untested. His hard record (at professional level) really isn't extensive - a handful of first round futures back in 2008-9, some wildcards and a couple of rounds of challenger qualifying in 2010, and a futures quarterfinal in 2011.
