Re: Davis Cup
Unfortunately David's teammate is a loser who hasn't won a single important match in his career.
I'm very proud of David though, it was beautiful how he demolished Berdych.

Re: Davis Cup
Congratulations, David, for your two victories. Unfortunately, Nico couldn't get it done. I was so sad for Spain today. I really don't like Berdych or Stepanek and I thought it was a slap in the face to Rafa to include Rosol in the trophy ceremony and to Juanqui for excluding him when he scored a victory over Kazakstan in Spain's opening DC tie of the year. This year was a horrible year for many reasons.

Re: Davis Cup
So sad to see Ferru winning two matches with incredible performances, and still not win the Davis Cup.
What disappoints me the most is that I'm afraid it will prevent Spain from finally acknowledging Ferru's immense contribution to their Davis Cup team. I'm afraid people will sum it up that way: Spain lost because Nadal was not there
I feel sorry for Almagro. This kind of pressure is really awful. The Davis Cup is beautiful but it can also be very, very cruel.

Well said And here the doubles match was oh so important. Wonder if there is any regret not playing Feli for the doubles?

Re: Davis Cup
I agree about Ferru. He played his heart out, and always does. I also felt bad for Juan Carlos. I thought he would get another special tribute at DC, but he didn't, as far as I know. I just want to put this whole year behind me, for many reasons. On the good side, Ferrer had a wonderful year. He won the most matches this year. That is something incredible.

Re: Davis Cup
I feel so bad for Ferrer, i mean this guy deserves so much credit for making this rubber close. But thanks to Almugro's pathetic attitude and performance, we knew this shit was gonna go south quickly
But overall to be honest, im very proud of the other spainards except for almugro, but then im happy for the Czechs because they are one of my fave davis cup team and they made history too. So very bittersweet for me

Why would you do that when you have the world champions in doubles to fill that spot?
Using him for the singles would've been reasonable, though. He has a 4-3 H2H advantage over Berdych and actually has the game too play well on fast hardcourts. Even playing Granollers in the final match would've made sense, due to his mental toughness.

Re: Davis Cup
I am also still very sad that Spain didn´t win the Davis Cup this year and obviously I am also especially very sad for Ferru
I was in Prague myself supporting the spanisch team, but as we had to fly back on sunday we had to leave after the first set of Almagro-Stepanek to get to the airport in time.
In the end it maybe was better this way, because I wasn´t so keen on seeing the celebrating czechs as I don´t like them at all! I especially dislike Berdych after all the shit and bad things he has said.
But what I really don´t like and what makes me pretty sad is all the critics Almagro gets! He is not my favourite player, not at all, but I don´t think it´s fair to critize him like many people do! Nico was there all the year for the spanish Davis Cup willing to give everything in every round, even when Feli was not available! Even if I personally think it would have been a good optiom to let Feli play, I also really understand Alex why he let Nico play. And who knows if Feli would have won the match?? He could have lost against Stepanek, who really was on fire, as well! Also the noise in the O2 Arena really was amazing and I can only imagine how difficult it must have been to play there and have so many people against you! Therefore I don´t blame Almagro for loosing...after we lost the doubles on saturday I was almost sure Spain wouldn´t have a chance to win!
For me the key match was the doubles..unfortunately Marcel played really bad last saturday and made far too many easy mistakes, especially volleys who went into the net
I really, really wanted Spain to win and am still very sad for them, but on the other hand it was a great success for them to reach the final again and it´s a fact that you cannot always win!
I hope all the players will enjoy their holidays now & I am already looking forward to next year
For me it was a wonderful year, not only tennis wise

Maybe they should have played Ferru for the doubles
I'm joking, but mental toughness plays such a huge part in Davis Cup rubbers... I'm not sure it wouldn't have worked better! (when you see how he and Feli could beat great teams and almost beat Tsonga/Llodra in the Olympics... )
I think both the doubles team and Almagro lost mostly because of that aspect. Or another way to put it would be that Stepanek won thanks to that aspect, too. He was far more reliable than Berdych. Only Ferru outmatched him in that respect.

They may be the WC but their best win there was playing the Bryans. I think Marc Lopez is great at the net and scampers around but his serve was/is a liability. Feli at least has a great serve. Maybe it would not have worked since he and Granollers have not played together but then again maybe they would have given the Czech team a bit of a fit. As for the 5th rubber- Radek won it, not Almagro losing it. He played way above his typical self.

Re: Davis Cup
Better luck in 2013 to Spain. I am American, but I have a soft spot for the Spanish guys, especially Ferru, Rafa and Juanqui. I hope Rafa is healthy next year and ready to play again. The Spanish players have a special bond of friendship which is touching to see. I was very happy for David. He had a great year.

Berdych/Stepanek is obviously a great team too, better than any combination Spain can put on the court.
