I love the books, and wondered whether anyone was watching the HBO series.

I was very annoyed how much the series departed from the book this episode.

Why are they setting up some personal confrontation between Joffery and Tywyn Lannister?

The torture porn scenes turned in to just porn. Totally unnecessary.

Almost every scene was a departure from the book in mysterious and confusing ways.

Jamie did rescue Brienne, but I kind of liked that in the book almost everyone enjoying seeing Brienne in the pit got killed. I guess having the bear killed was too much for the producers.

The interaction between the red woman and Robert's by-blow continues to bug as does the relationship between Ygritte and Jon Snow. At least Ygritte looked absolutely lovely in this episode. She's better suited to green backgrounds. And now the tower is a freaking windmill???

All in all it was annoying, and so slowly creeping toward the meat of the book with all these unnecessary and made up scenes that aren't in the book.

Don't really like how they're focusing so much on the torture of Theon... a bit too graphic in my opinion and it really doesn't seem to take the story forward.

A bit of a filler episode I think, compared to some of the better episodes this season.

For those who have read the books, don't spoil the show please.

I know!! It's disturbing enough in the book and there it's only referred to in thoughts.

I saw a little interview with the producers and they were laughing about how much they were enjoying these torture scenes.

I just don't understand why they think it's necessary to have all these made up scenes and why they change the characters. I have a feeling we are going to see major departures from the book.

Thankfully, I just fast forward through the torture scenes.

There are very few wars in the book really, I think because of the POV style you get alot of personal stories that dont add up so much to the powergame and the powergame in itself is mostly intrigue in the court like say Borgias and not big battles.

Tywin has a famous quote in the book that goes "some wars are won with swords others with quills and ravens".

Marriages, alliances and intrigue in Kings Landings is more important than the battles.

Right now we have several big marriages as the aftermath of the battle in season 2 leaves people regrouping with new alliances beeing made. Margeary-Jeoffrey, Edmure-Frey, Cersei-Loras, Tyrion-Sansa, Littlefinger-Lysa. Keep attention because these things matter a great deal to the power struggle.

Then in the end this show is not about the struggle for power in itself but what great loss is inflicted on all families involved in this struggle for power. So, in its hearth it is a drama, even in some ways a tragedy and not an action series.

I have to say I'm pretty disappointed with this season especially considering that book three is my favorite in the entire series. They changed so many scenes and characters, cut out some of my fav scenes and gave us pointless fillers instead. But I cannot wait for both weddings, it'll be a real shocker to people who didn't read the books!

Well, the show is quite difficult to properly edit. POV structure of the book means that there are so many characters that we need to follow all the time, if we leave one out too long we also lose investment in them.

But sure loved how they focused on 3 storylines this episode. I loved how they edited episode 5 this season aswell. Editing seems to be one hell of a creative work in this series, in season 1 it was alot easier ofcourse. They basically have 2 options, focus on few storylines or try to find a uniting theme in all different storylines.

Most difficult are the unconnected storylines, like Bran, Theon, Sam and Stannis. It is difficult for people to see why those stories even matter in some ways.

Jon, Daenarys clearly lead somewhere even if they are far off.

Drogo is dead, he's likely not coming back for anything but a flashback.

I was almost afraid of watching this one, with all the comments on the upcoming "shocking wedding"! I kinda guessed what would happen though... I just fear that the war will become slightly less interesting with the North "defeated", I can't see them rallying back from this one... But maybe Stannis will prove to be a worthy foe for the Lannisters?

It was a very surprising move as this was the best storyline and they killed it off just when it was getting cool. But then again, this is GoT people, "if you think this has a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention".

Actually people who have read the books told me that in the show they built up Robb more than he is developed in the books. I guess that's why what happens in the last episode is that much more shocking on TV than it must have been in the books.

I only read the first book of this The Song of Ice and Fire series. But after that I decided to stop reading so that I could enjoy the TV series much more. So I didn't see it coming and almost had a heart attack when suddenly that massacre began. Some of my friends who already have read those books knew that it was coming but still they felt almost the same as me. In fact, it's been two and a half days and we are still grieving. :sobbing:

Geroge R.R. Martin should ask the Lannisters to save him. ;) Almost every GoT viewer wants to kill him!
