Other early musings...

1. This is a tough field. Hope there are no players showing up just for the appearance fees...

2. I'll seriously start worrying about Agassi if he loses to Enqvist.

3. MC is starting to annoy me with this vanity "farewell" tour.

4. P-H M. needs to start showing that he has the goods. He's already 21 and nothing show for it. Maybe he'll be a late bloomer a la Rafter  Can he pull the upset against Robredo?

5. Kafelnikov, Blake and Fish got bad draws too :(

6. Of course Roddick gets a qualifier

This draw looks pretty "drawn" to me...

But in all this tourney is a terrible predictor of the US Open outcome with only a 10% champion rate (see Former Champions)...

I think once the Qualifying draw is announced, a LL replaces anyone on the MD.

TennisFool - PHM had a great run last year, winning two tournaments in a run (including one in Russia - oh, the irony). IMO he was on the right track but then came the DC disaster (for him) and a long injury. He's only recently started regaining his form.

And, of course, good luck to Harel Levy vs Scott :)

Felix replaces Andre's spot as #17 seed, Flavio Saretta replaces Felix's spot.

I think they got Andre's withdrawal before they released qualies draw, and that's why the qualifying draw came out later, Flavio was next in to be main draw originally...

Agassi Withdraws

Andre Agassi has withdrawn from Cincinnati’s Western & Southern Financial Group MASTERS.
“While I clearly anticipated playing Cincinnati, at this stage of my career I have to be selective about the weeks I can compete,” Agassi said. “Cincinnati is a wonderful tournament with great fans, and the Florys have been pillars of the game. I look forward to returning to Cincinnati next year.”

“I spoke with Andre’s manager last night,” said tournament director Bruce Flory. “We’re certainly disappointed Andre won’t be in Cincinnati, but the caliber of our field is still very strong. Every player who’s won a Grand Slam or a Masters Series event this year, other than Agassi, is still in the draw, and we still have 23 of the top 25 in the world. That should make our fans very excited for the upcoming matches this week.”

World No. 17 Felix Mantilla, the next player to be seeded, will move into Agassi’s slot in the draw and will play 2000 singles champion Thomas Enqvist in the first round. Flavio Saretta of Brazil, who was the next player to be admitted to the draw, will take Mantilla’s spot in the draw.

The 102nd renewal of the Western & Southern Financial MASTERS will be held August 11-17. Tickets are still available by calling TicketMaster at 513-562-4949 or the tournament directly at 513-651-0303. An interactive ticket request form also may be found on this website.
