Andy Murray: 3 Grand Slam finals lost, no sets won
Buddy Austin: 3 Grand Slam finals lost, no sets won
In both cases each lost the the GOATs of their era in the final (Vines, Budge, Federer, Djokovic)
Both were British
Austin also lost in the finals of the doubles at the French and Wimbledon - poor guy.
Whilst Murray got over $1 million for his runners up appearance at the Australian Open all Austin received for being the runnerup in the 1938 final was a £10 gift voucher from the jeweller's Mappin and Webb. Austin was rejected from the All England Club for many years because of the vote of one man vetoing his entry due to a grudge held from Cambridge. Austin was also held in little regard by Fred Perry despite being of equal help in bring the British Davis Cup between 1933-36. All a bit sad really.
