Re: Jan-Lennard Struff
First round in Heilbronn versus Kenny de Shepper. Seems not unbeatable...

Re: Jan-Lennard Struff
Struff beat Ungur, and there was a somewhat comical point. Struff's last service game (second to last game of the match) when he was leading 30-15: his first serve hit the top of the net, it looked like it was going to bounce out, but it fell in the left service line, Adrian lunged for it, but with no luck. I would have liked to see a replay. The no-let service point came kind of by surprise. I'm not sure if Ungur forgot about this temporary rule, or simply thought the ball wasn't falling in. If he had stepped up to the service box in anticipation of the ball dropping in, the ball stayed in the air enough time too - he could have let it rip to level the game at 30-30.

Re: Jan-Lennard Struff
Jan-Lennard is steadily closing in to the Top 100. Final in Bergamo tomorrow. Good thing for him is that he doesn't defend any points till May. This is his chance to take a jump.

Re: Jan-Lennard Struff
Next week he is in Quimber and in three weeks in Cherbourg. Afterwards he is on the list for Miami. Inbetween he plays maybe the Challenger in Dallas, but this is only speculation. In this tournaments he can collect enough points for the Top 100 and the MD in RG...
...this could be exciting

Re: Jan-Lennard Struff
Disappointed with last week's effort. Roll on the next tournament.

Re: Jan-Lennard Struff
Sure disappointed but not unexpected...
...final in Bergamo sunday evening, journey to Quimper on monday, so real rest only on tuesday. Ignatik instead has lost first round in Bergamo and had much more time for rest...
...I think in Cherbourg will be better!

Re: Jan-Lennard Struff
He's playing again and winning 6:3, 6:3 against Ivo Karlovic in first round of Miami Qualification...
...one more to go for the Main Draw!

Re: Jan-Lennard Struff
Yeah I have seen Jan play quite a few times now, last time was live at the Australian Open qualies.
His results are totally unpredictable: On a good day he can blast top 100 guys off the court with his straight powerful shots, but on a bad day he can produce 50 unforced errors and lose to the number 600.
He's got a lot of potential, but consistency is definitely a major issue. Hopefully he can get that under control, otherwise I see him becoming another Lucas Rosol, which wouldn't be bad by any means but not astonishing either.
One aspect he should work on is his serve: For a 196cm tall guy he is missing a lot of serves long or into the net, so there's quite a bit of room for improvement. In particular his hitting arm is an a slightly awkward position at the trophy pose.
Shot selection is another thing: He often hits the backhand down the line, but misses like 3 out of ten long or into the net, or occasionally he gets countered cause he doesn't place it well.
Bottom line is, he goes for too much sometimes and is not patient enough.
Hopefully he can fulfil his potential and do some damage!

Re: Jan-Lennard Struff
Donskov looks like a realistic opponent to beat.. the betting odds are even in Struff's favour cause Donskov's clay record is not that great. Hopefully Jan will be on his game!

Re: Jan-Lennard Struff
Couldn't do it in the end, but the points gained from qualifying are welcome.
