I think it's about time for David to have his own thread :p
And I'm sure that someday he will have his own forum too :)
I think he has such a beautiful game and he has so much potential! I'm sure he will move up in the rankings this year. :yeah:

He's playing some great tennis this week in Chennai and just reached the QF's.

ATP Chennai:

1R: (WC) David Goffin def. Xavier Malisse 4-6 6-2 6-3
2R: (WC) David Goffin def. Andreas Becker 4-6 6-4 6-2
QF: (WC) David Goffin vs Janko Tipsarevic

Good luck against Tipsarevic! :yeah:

Re: David Goffin Cheering Thread

I like this draw, for David. Berankis in many ways is quite similar to Goffin, but Goffin does a lot of things a little bit better than Berankis. There games have slight conceptual differences, though, and it's dangerous for me to compare them as similar.

As a huge fan of both, it's a nightmare draw for me. I wish both of them luck and may the better man win.

Re: David Goffin Cheering Thread

rycka routined david in geneva last year . Im kind of feeling a straight set loss here

it sucks because i would like to see both end their year on a positive note. Rycka will be playing challengers after this but i think this will be it for david so i will pull for him more

Re: David Goffin Cheering Thread

Goffin has improved a bit since 2011, don't you think?

Berankis is still to find a level he's reached before, but I feel a big return to form is imminent, although perhaps due nxt season.
without doubt but that doesnt change the fact that i think rycka probably likes these kind of courts a little more and its a quick turn around for david

plus rycka will be fighting to maintain a top 100 ranking over the next couple of months so he'll be motivated

Re: David Goffin Cheering Thread

Wasn't surprised. He's not strong enough for three weeks in a row yet.

Enjoy a great off-season David and lets see you come firing all cylinders in 2013 at Chennai! Stay healthy, and grow tougher! Great chances there in Chennai IMO, provided he gets a slightly favourable draw, which he just might, given his year end ranking.

Re: David Goffin Cheering Thread

Why is David not playing in Chennai? He did so well there in the past. Should have at least made it 3 years in a row. I hope his decision to play Brisbane doesn't get him a first round exit. Really want to see him make a great AO 2013, and he needs at least a few matches to begin with.

Re: David Goffin Cheering Thread

here's an interview with david:

I can translate if you need

Re: David Goffin Cheering Thread

I would love a translation :D
i'm not going to do word for word, i'll give you the basic points:

Q1: asks him why he's playing in brisbane. He says that he wanted to get used to the conditions before the australian open

Q2: he just talks about how this is the first time he'll play the australian.mentions he's been there as a spectator before and that hos coach will join him in aukland

Q3 and Q4: talks about things he's done to prepare during the off season, going into more detail in question 4. He's tried to build muscle. also worked on his serve and his forehand

Q5: talks about his goals for the season.wants to solidify his place in the top 50 but there's nothing specific other than that. doesnt want to put alot of pressure on himself. wants to do well at the grand slams. Not sure on the last part but i think he says he'd like to make the quarterfinal at wimbledon

Q6: reporter just mentions how there will be more pressure and more eyes on him this season. David is aware of that . he's ready for it. he had a great year last season and he wants to have another one like it

Re: David Goffin Cheering Thread

Lost to Bellucci 6-7 2-6 first round in Auckland. Didn't watch the match.

What do you guys think he needs to work on to help him stay consistent on tour level? He has to add equipment in his arsenal to back up his amazing talent. I really wouldn't like to see our man to become a journeyman player and I certainly don't want another crash out at the first round of AO. Hope Goff knows his fans care.
