That epic 5-5 game in 2nd with him fighting 3-4 bps to not go down 5-6 is probably the turning pt. He's now in the 3rd up a break. But I dare not to assume he will win this, there's still too many serves for him to hold. Gilles, C'mon now, allez.
So glad for Gilles , he's fighting a lot this season even if he's playing badly, and to defeat a frenchman is never easy for Gilles, so all in all, a great win, again on the mental, because he seemed down and out at 2-6 5-5 when Benny had 3 BP's, 2 of which were on 2nd serve. Chardy or Zeballos next round, Jeremy is serving a storm, 24/24 points won on 1st serve
I'm happy about his serve stat in the 3rd set. 57% first serve which is good in his standard, and won 13 of 14 first serve so he's not just rolling the ball in. But even with this serve stat, he still lost a break . Oh well. Still, good serving in the 3rd, hope he can keep it up.
Good job Gilles. I only wish I could've actually watched him get this win instead of checking my phone every 15 minutes or so. Up next now is the only other Frenchman I like and who I feel is Gilles' best doubles partner when he plays. Hope Gilles can keep winning.
Nice win for him.
Bennet' always plays well against Gilles and is confident when he plays him, he said that "he knows how to beat him" lol, he's generally a solid player who doesn't make many UES except when he plays finals ( a bit similar to Nieminen) although he's in poor form at the moment so i don't think the level of the match was so low.
Difficult match next round against Chardy, who plays and serves well on this fast clay expectedly.
Well, looks like no such luck yet again in being able to see a streamed or televised Gilles Simon match. He's last up tomorrow on Court 4. I really would've liked to have seen him and Chardy going at it too. Oh well. What are you gonna do?
This is just another reason why I'm against the WTA sharing events outside of the majors with the men. They take up spots on the TV courts that would otherwise go to the just outside the top 10 men players who end up on the outer courts instead to make room for the Serenas. The Sharapovas and the like. Not a fan. I'm all for it as it is in the majors but let the WTA sink or swim with attendance figures on their own outside of the majors instead of riding piggy back with the ATP players. My opinion only of course.

I couldn't agree more with you about the WTA!!! I was hoping to see him on a livestream and not again follow the scoreboard it's too painful...anyway allez Gillou!!!!!
You know that's not the point I was making . They shouldn't even be here with the men period and if they weren't, I'd be watching Gilles Simon play tomorrow and that's what I care about.
If the WTA event is perfectly able to stand on her own and makes as much money as the ATP event, then I hope the women players speak out too and tell the organizers that they want the 2 tours to be separated. It would make perfect sense then if it doesn’t affect them in prize money but they can also have the facility for their own instead of having to share with the men. It is what the men wants anyway, it’s not so much the prize money but the fact that they have to share insufficient facilities with WTA in such share event. In fact, if I’m WTA, I will insist separate event just to shut the men up for saying WTA is leeching on ATP. That’s the best and only way to prove the men’s wrong by generating the same amount of revenue for the comparable event without having to have that event happening at the same location and same time with the men. But WTA isn’t doing that. WTA is pretty much not saying anything, because about the only thing they can say is The Sharapovas and Serenas are more attractive than the Simons. And they don’t even dare comparing themselves against the Federers and Nadals.
Annoying we won't see Gilles again, oh well. Chardy will be very tough, he's a big hitter and judging on the results so far, these courts are playing fast.
Well i really don't mind the shared events even though I'm not a fan of women's tennis. I think some players, Gilles included, put too much emphasis on it and this debate was always going nowhere. More critical, when us he starting to work with the new coach?

Well, to be fair, Gilles only just said his peace in one tournament last year (Wimby) and that's the end of it for him. It's not like he talks about it all the time. He can't stop other ppl from keep bring it up or keep comparing him to Sharapova . I'm gonna stop right here.
He already started working with his new coach, I believe the moment he announced it. I have L'Equipe's post match article after he beat Benny. It's more about Benny than Gilles and it's only part of it, it seems the beginning is missing. But here it is. He said he got some advice for his BH from his new coach and the BH 50 times better already.
i don't know why i put myself through this suffering of following Gilles on the scoreboard  he broke Chardy at 3/1 and got immediately broken the next game 3 all now
Great win for Gilles , he defends his 2012 points with two quality wins IMO, bcoz they were vs Frenchies, against whom Gilles usually struggles and in tight matches, which should be great for his confidence.
Now vs Andy or Flo Mayer ( 76 in the 1st for the Scott, it looks like it will be him) here was the last time he took a set off Andy, and if he plays agressive, and changing the pace he may have a chance, IMO this is the best place for him to beat Andy, but Andy should definitely be the favourite.
He probably played his best match Vs Murray 2 or 3 years ago here, i remember watching this match and he played very well in the first 2 sets with patience and aggressive play, even in the third set (but a lot of missed volleys in this set) which he lost 6-0 anyway lol.
Murray will win but i don't think the score will be too harsh.

As a Murray fan I really hope the score isn't too harsh. I like Gilles and he his results this week have been promising. I would hate to see him get a beating here as it could undo any mental gains that he has made.
