Re: Fill-In-The-Draw (FITD) Houston 2013
How to send your picks:
It is easiest for the manager if everyone's picks are in the same format (since we use Excel to calculate the scores and standings). This saves us from having to go through everyone's picks manually looking for typos and other inconsistencies, which can be quite time-consuming.
Therefore, it would be greatly appreciated if participants adhere to the following format of submitting picks as closely as possible!
1. The following is an example of how to submit picks in FITD. Note that picks for each round consist of one line specifying which round it is, followed by listing the winner of each match for that round (last name of each player only). This is repeated for each subsequent round of the tournament.
Code:
Round 1
Berdych
Hajek
Bautista-Agut
Lu
Cilic
Stakhovsky
Sela
Paire
Haase
Bedene
Sijsling
Wawrinka
Soeda
Qualifier
Roger-Vasselin
Tipsarevic
Round 2
Berdych
Lu
Cilic
Paire
Haase
Wawrinka
Soeda
Tipsarevic
QuarterFinals
Berdych
Cilic
Wawrinka
Tipsarevic
SemiFinals
Cilic
Wawrinka
Final
Cilic
2. Please don't put spaces in between rounds - that way I can copy and paste your draws into Excel in one go.
3. Please check your draws for spelling mistakes! It is recommended that you copy players' names from the main draw posted in post #2 in order to minimise the chance of making spelling mistakes. I will try my best to detect and fix any typos that participants make, but
if I miss any spelling mistakes you make then your score may be lower than it should be.
4. Please only post the last names of players - no first names or initials! Even if there are 2 players with the same surname in the draw (e.g. Florian Mayer and Leo Mayer), please only write their last name (e.g. "Mayer"). The exception to this is when 2 players with the same surname play each other in a match, in which case you should specify their first name.
5. Please don't use accents (e.g. "López") or nicknames for players - it is easiest for the manager if everyone's picks are in the same format.
6. For players with two surnames (e.g. "Garcia-Lopez"), please refer to the draw in post #2 to see how you should write their names (i.e. with a hyphen or not). Confusingly, some of these players don't have a hyphen between the two surnames (e.g. "Ramirez Hidalgo"). Therefore, once again, it is best if you copy from the main draw posted in post #2.
7. Finally, with respect to qualifiers:
a. Prior to qualifiers being placed in the draw:
Please write "Qualifier" if you want to pick a qualifier to win their match.
b. In the event that
2 qualifiers play each other,
please write "Qualifier 1" or "Qualifier 2" (I will specify this in the main draw when this happens).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
N.B. To clarify this rule for this section of this tournament's draw:
Code:
Cipolla v Qualifier
Qualifier v Lorenzi
For Round 1:
Please write "Qualifier" if you think the first qualifier will beat Cipolla, and write "Qualifier" if you think the second qualifier will beat Lorenzi.
For Round 2:
If you picked the first qualifier to beat Cipolla AND the second qualifier to beat Lorenzi:
Please write "Qualifier 1" if you think the qualifier who beat Cipolla will beat the qualifier who beat Lorenzi; and write "Qualifier 2" if you think the qualifier who beat Lorenzi will beat the qualifier who beat Cipolla.
If you didn't pick both qualifiers to win their first round matches, you don't have to do this - you can simply write "Qualifier" if you think the one qualifier you picked in this section to make Round 2 will make the QuarterFinals.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
c. Sometimes there are draws in which
multiple qualifiers are drawn in the same section and thus are likely to play each other (e.g. one qualifier to face the winner of a match between two qualifiers). In these cases I will designate each qualifier a different title (i.e. "Qualifier 1", "Qualifier 2", "Qualifier 3", "Qualifier 4"...) in the main draw.
In such circumstances please write "Qualifier 1", "Qualifier 2", "Qualifier 3", "Qualifier 4" etc. Once again, I will specify this in the main draw when this is necessary.
d.
After qualifiers have been placed in the draw (which doesn't always happen before the first match begins),
you can write their last names instead of "Qualifier". I will update the draw in post #2 with the qualifiers once they are placed in the main draw (if they are indeed placed before the first match begins).
