Re: Week 13: Le Gosier, Guadeloupe [Entry List]

Nicolas ANCEDY (GUD) ??

There is no GUD in the IOC country codes list
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_IOC_country_codes

Does GUD stand for Guadeloupe? However, other Guadeloupian tennis players (Mina, Hemery et al) were considered as French (FRA) always. Don't understand this case: misprint, mistake, political action, ... ??

Re: Week 13: Le Gosier, Guadeloupe [Entry List]

Does anyone know why this event has a 500/masters like Qualy draw with only 2 rounds?

#43 ·
Re: Week 13: Le Gosier, Guadeloupe [Entry List]

^ It happens sufficiently often on Challenger Tour: number of players signed for qualies ≤ 16
Yes, but why are certain events like this on the CH tour, I thought it was just an ATP thing, I mean it's hard enough for players to try and get to the next level, why have only a 16 player qualy draw for challengers?

Re: Week 13: Le Gosier, Guadeloupe [Entry List]

Challenger players are not easily parted from their money. It's interesting for tennis fans to have such exotic tournament venues as Reunion, Noumea or Le Gosier, but for low ranked players trips to such places are expensive and probably have no sense (for Le Gosier) on the eve of European clay season. Le Gosier is good place for Miami QD and MD players to make stop before moving to Europe, but their quantity is sufficient only for MD here. So usually we have the same picture every year: very good (for challengers) MD and weak and short QD (mainly of local and doubles players). Look through years:
2014 - final Johnson vs De Schepper, that year the MD wasn't the strongest because the organizers moved event to a week later; QD was of 10 players (doubles and local ones);
2013 - Miami 2nd week, Paire vs Stakhovsky, QD of 16 players;
2012 - Miami 2nd week, Goffin vs M.Zverev, QD of 23 players;
2011 - IW 2nd week, 8 top-100 players in MD (Nieminen, Fognini, Bolelli, Andujar ..), final Rochus vs Robert, no qualies at all.

Yeah, but they could still have a 32 spot qualy draw, I mean they did fill the 16 spots, so there was probably more players who signed up, not to mention a lot of challengers with 32 draws end up with a lot of byes, so I don't see why certain events should only be 16.

Re: Week 13: Le Gosier, Guadeloupe [Entry List]

We have challengers at other overseas departments of France: Reunion Island and New Caledonia (Noumea). You could find local players on relative entry lists or draws. All of them are marked as French players. It seems New Caledonia is moving to official independence, nevertheless all local players have FRA after their names. So I'm trying also to understand the difference between the legal statuses of sportsmen from these three overseas departments, if any...

Re: Week 13: Le Gosier, Guadeloupe [Entry List]

That's equal to 16 players and 16 BYEs. They just skipped to mention BYEs in the draw.
No they didn't, it was a 16 player draw only, if there were byes it would be a 32 player draw.

Re: Week 13: Le Gosier, Guadeloupe [Entry List]

^ You don't know how many player signed up, this event was a 16 player QD last year too, it's always like that.

Last direct acceptance: 16 byes

I don't know why you think something is not correct here. It's pure and simple (and not the first time on Challenger Tour), 16 players signed so they all received bye into 2nd round, with 8 players they would play only final qualifying round, nothing strange here. Don't tell us someone lowly ranked paid few thousand dollars to go to Le Gosier and bad ATP didnt allow him to play. Because it's not true.

Re: Week 13: Le Gosier, Guadeloupe [Entry List]

It's interesting that this event had 16 bye's, but still had a 32 player 3 rounds qualy draw: http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2015/2205/qs.pdf
Technically that is how it works. All challenger tournaments have 3 rounds of qualifying but if there are 16 players or less everyone gets a first round bye. Sometimes draw sheets are simplified to show a two round draw, sometimes they show three rounds, in reality there is no difference.
