Hilarious. All the people insisting that DP was going to demolish Murray now moaning that Andy has an easy draw because DP can't make the match... And it's not as if Gilles has ever been a tough opponent for Andy so his tiredness won't be a massive factor anyway.
Anyway I thought this match was very compelling. Really glad Gilles came through! He showed so much heart. And good on Gael for a strong start to the season after so long injured.
All these French players make clowns out of themselves though, Clownga, Simon and Monfils... Shame Lllodra and Benneteau are too old to save French Tennis. Only hope left is Gasquet and I can't see him improving much.
EDIT: Forgot about Chardy, maybe he could do something good. Only time can tell.
Both of these guys didn't have much in the tank before starting the match...
And yet they gave their heart out there and played so many long rallies for almost 5 hours.
One word is to be said: RESPECT!
I'm sure both of them are trying to troll the crowd and the ATP as a whole. What a mug match with both of them having their own problems at one point of the time. However, it was pretty fun to watch at times.
Gilles came into the Oz open with a cold and a neck issue, he was seriously treading water to just make the 3rd round. He played to a high level for the 1st 2 sets but it basically finished him off, or should have had he been playing anyone bar Monfils.
He showed heart and fight Gilles and did all he could to win that match.
Monfils on the other hand is a total idiot. He came out with the game plan to out rally Gilles which was never gonna work hence why he was 2 sets down before Gilles got injured/ran out of gas.
From there the match was Monfils even though he had started with the wrong tactic, had he just attacked Gilles serves and been more aggressive. Letting a wounded player rally from the middle of the court and amble around to puff shots was just criminal.
Anyway proud of Gilles, but he will have nothing for the Murray match.

i enjoyed this one big time, despite it was WTA level of tennis.
the drama and physical endurance was phenomenal
some great points between the pushing and again a stupid decision from Monfils to seal it up (this smash in the first point Simon serving to win the match...)
Simon almost fainted saving a break point (or at 15-30 was it) in the last set, was just a wow match
Prefer this compared to some routines happening lately
How many games will Simug win after this grind fuck? Sad for the Clown.
