see that from draw klizan made it as LL

he was the top seed of the losers so its poetic justice that his name came out of the hat of 4 possibles

French Tennis Federation reports Gilles Simon is withdrawing from #AusOpen due to his ankle injury. The lucky loser will be Stephane Robert.

When Simon withdraws #AusOpen draw will shuffle significantly: No25 Monfils will move to Simon's slot, No33 Benneteau will move to Monfils'…

…and lucky loser Stephane Robert will take Benneteau's spot (vs Carreno Busta in R1), assuming no one else withdraws before Gilles.

So, Monfils would move away from a potentially awesome R3 match vs Nadal and into a potentially awesome R3 match vs Tsonga. Cool.

French deals

[quote=MarsManana;19707809]I am very curious to see how Klizan responds to an abysmal 2013.

Lost in the final round of qualifying to Thiem. Did not play well and was very animated and hot-headed during the match. Not good.
But has received an LL into main draw, so could advance further - if he plays well.

Updated from last night: Simon STILL hasn't pulled out yet (even though he's on crutches) and it is now too late to reshuffle #AusOpen draw…

Ben Rothenberg ‏@BenRothenberg 6h ago
Just saw Gilles Simon, looks improved already. No crutches, walking on own power. Slowly, but he was holding hands with his toddler #AusOpen

Gilles Simon plays an epic match just three days after being on crutches: Bad luck struck the Frenchman on Friday, when he rolled his ankle so badly during an exhibition match that two men had to carry him off the court. On Saturday, he was spotted hobbling around Melbourne Park on crutches, and the French press was reporting that he had withdrawn from the tournament. Yet there he was on court Tuesday, playing a four-hour, 32-minute marathon against Germany’s Daniel Brands. Simon came back from two sets to one down and saved seven match points to win 6-7 (4), 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 16-14 on a non-televised outer court. It was an effort for the ages and no one other than the smattering of fans (and Gael Monfils, who sneaked into the first row to cheer for Simon) got to see it.

Well done Simon - an epic indeed, in the stifling heat.

BTW - Lucky losers Marty Klizan and Robert Stephane(he did get in despite Simon not withdrawing) both won their 1st round matches, so are now Lucky lucky losers...
