Johnny Millman, no he isn't going to be one of the alltime greats, and I am not starting this thread because of nationalistic reasons either.

He made sure he finished his schooling before starting to play on the tour, which is a good thing and he is a good guy with a very positive attitude.

Played well this week by making the semis of the Burnie Challenger losing to Klein, who won the title. After a few days at home, he is going to Spain and playing Futures events on the clay, which is a surface that he enjoys playing on. It will help the development of his game and also he can use his fitness.

He has won a Futures title and made a final in a Romanian futures as a qualifier.

SO HAPPY FOR THE MAILMAN.

Not sure if John ever played at Junior Wimbledon? - but now a chance for him to play at Wimbledon on the main stage.
Absolutely freaking awesome
GO MILKMAN

Now watch him qualify and get ever closer to the Top 100!
Famous last words!

In fact, because of the double removal of points as the ranking periods re-sync after Wimbledon, I think John actually starts his campaign at or very near to No. 100 itself. Now, victories by others either at the All England Club or in Challengers will push him backwards if he loses to Robredo - but still, great to see him on the very edge of US Open MD (or being one of the top alternates who usually squeak it).

That cuts off on July 20 by my reckoning, so any points John can gain during the next three weeks are crucial as these will probably get him over the line. It's a shame he doesn't appear to be doing anything during the week of July 13...obviously he would be keen to make a good direct acceptance debut at ATP level in Bogota the week after, but even one qualifying win in Newport could make a difference.

Yes Slasher's three week out forecast has him on 100 exactly; for week of 20 July, 96. But there are a lot of people starting below him who are likely to get first round wins at least and so could jump over him, so winning a match or two at Wimbledon or in a challenger the second week will be crucial to his hopes.

Couple of very nice articles about John in News Corp - and some great news: gets to be orange boy for DC!

Right after Wimbledon, Millman will head to Darwin to help the Davis Cup team prepare for the tie against Kazakhstan. He’ll be there mainly as a hitting partner, to keep the big guns in practice honest.

I had a feeling going in to yesterday that the Jipper might provide the heartwarming Aussie battler story of this year's Wimbledon - and in truth he almost did, but in the end it's Millman who starred.

What a fantastic feeling for John after all his toil and trouble to beat a seed, in front of his parents, on his sport's grandest stage.

And as noted, he actually has a decent draw...while matches against Baghdatis and Goffin are tough, neither are unbeatable and he could actually make a real breakthrough if things fall his way.

Not to mention a huge payday and the likelihood he's done just enough to make it into the US Open main draw.

Great to see Milkman have some success. It has been a battler's route for him, battle he has and more to come.
Well done John.
