So I figured I'd start this thread now, even though it might be a bit early still
Gianluigi Quinzi is currently the #1 U-14 Player in Europe, and top 10 U-16
Birthday: Feb 1, 1996
Residence: Porto San Giorgio, Italy
Plays: Left handed two handed backhand
Titles
Gianluigi is currently only 14 years old, and he's undefeated in U-18 ITF events, having won 4 consecutive titles.
G5 Honduras Bowl, Sep 18 Clay
G5 Copa Coqui, Sep 25 Hard
G5 Copa Mangu, Oct 2 Hard
G5 Curacao Juniors Open, Oct 9 Hard
That was 4 titles in 4 weeks, against players up to 4 years older than him, on two different surfaces.
He is based out of Italy, but currently training at the Nick Bolleteri Tennis Academy.
This week (November 7), he is playing in his first professional tennis match, in Futures Qualifying in Mexico, and next week he will be participating in the Challenger tournament down there.
Is Top 300 too lofty of a goal for GQ this year? That would put him in a great position compared to his peers. Nick Kyrgios just cracked the top 300 and he's a year older than Quinzi.
Hi everyone!
Glad to find a Gianluigi thread here!
I discovered him about a year ago in Roland Garros when he was Rafa's sparring partner Since then i'm following what he's doing and even start a twitter account about his playing activity!
Hope he'll won this final today!
Too bad for Gianluigi, he lost his final to the local Sahwat 2-6 6-1 3-6. Now awaits the tough encounter with Kavcic, hopefully he'll have enough left in the tank to challenge the Slovenian.
I hope he does well at Junior French Open. If he wins it, that confidence may be enough for him to win his first Futures title, and then head into the Challenger domain.
