In the eleven years it was held, including the final over Roger Federer in 2000. Roger won this tournament last year, making it a very Swissable event :D

Other notables:

1. Thomas Enqvist ties Marc Rosset in the number of wins, at three.
2. There have been two Frenchmen to win this event, Guy Forget in 1996 and Fabrice Santoro in 1999.
3. No American has ever been in the finals of this tournament.

Not many Americans enter this event, so that maybe a reason why they haven't won it.

Why the subject title TF? A good way to get debate happening. If you had a clue about Marc Rosset's career you would know that playing indoors was his favourite surface, then again he has won titles on all surfaces, but I figured you knew that already.

Nope George, didn't have a clue about Rosset's career other than his being a top 10 Groomsmen (Slamless achiever, mostly due to his gold Olympic medal and many tournament victories).

As you see, I'm a stats-fanatic. It's interesting to learn more about the history of different tournaments and players...hopefully others will find the info interesting also.

He loves Russia as well by the way TF. Please share your wisdom with us, then again I suppose beating two of the top 10, decimating Courier on clay in 92 and two Spaniards who were in the top 30 for a guy on his worst surface is an ordinary feat then?

He is semi-retired and I think he might finish up in Basle.

Who knows when he's going to finish - but he for sure loves Marseille (not only the tennis tournament but the soccer / football club as well ;) ) and sure he loves Moscow guess he won there 3 times as well when my memory serves me right that's almost half of his 15 titles ;)

and he leads Sanguinetti 6:1 4:4 (geee he was up 4:2 in the second....)

Allleeeeezzz Marc show them that you're not THAT old ;) come on go for it!!

He is the quarters and he plays Björkman and the thing he is never lost to him, though the last time they played was in 96.

For french-speaking people:
Marc Rosset:
"A mon âge, c'est dur de trouver la motivation. C'est pour cela que je me régale sur les tournois qui me plaisent. C'est le cas en France et en particulier à Marseille, où je n'ai pas perdu beaucoup de matches. Peut-être qu'on va me donner les clés de la ville !»
(Tu rêves, mon pote !! Arnaud est encore en jeu !! lol)

Tf, don't try and talk to me like an idiot I acknowledged that it was ages ago and of course it doesn't mean much, if you have seen him play now then he should be almost retired.

Played a good match, but Jonas was too good for him unfortunately.

The 33-year-old Swiss Davis Cup captain, who had to qualify for the $US600,000 tournament, celebrated his 25th match victory at an event he won in 1993, 1994 and 2000.

The 1992 Olympic champion, now ranked 122nd in the world, took full advantage of the Argentine clay-court specialist's discomfort on the indoor hard court.

"I was really keen to meet him as it was the first time. You don't meet top 10 guys in Challengers these days," Rosset said of fourth-ranked Coria, who won his seventh career title in Buenos Aires last weekend.

"The fact that he was returning from playing on clay helped for sure but I took lots of risks on his serve and it paid off."

"I had been looking for moments like this for some time," added Rosset, who is now semi-retired.

"It's hard at my age to keep the motivation."

"But I have great fun in the tournaments I enjoy. That's the case in France and especially in Marseille, a town in which I haven't lost many matches.

"They should make me an honorary citizen," he said.

what furthest rosset has been in a slam? only asking out of general interest as I dont know, but he reminds me so much of wayne arthurs, a big server who could pull of a big results and always surprised me with their weapons they didnt go further with their career as I expected.

Ok, oasis time for you to get some education.

How many journeymen have tournaments on all surfaces? Yes, that is something many players haven't been able to do.

Rosset had beat every top player at least once except Ferrero (only played once) and if you had a chance to see him take apart Jim Courier twice in 92 when he was the best player in the world, then you might think about the journeyman thing.

He made the French Open semis, he made quarters of the Australian Open and 4th round of the other two.

Actually he did worse than he actually should have, he never trained that hard during his career, and enjoyed the partying. When he felt like playing not many people wanted to play him, learn a bit of history.

Just for you here are the victories

i appreciate all he statistics but for the betting man looking at odds and matches, rosset was always the one guys looked at and said jeez he can beat him....he didnt inspire confidence or have a reputation as a big match player.....someone like kucera playing sampras i used to think god yes tough tough one, but rosset nope, he was nice to have in the draw for player with big ambitions

#17 ·
sorry but if you go back say 6 years and sampras plays rosset in a grand slam i wouldnt hesitate but to put my life savings on a sampras win...a no danger bet....theres plenty of players who float in top 30 or 40 who i would say ooooooo could cause trouble but not rosset sorry he was so gangly and clumsy and whenever i saw him on clay on eurosport channel he was moaning or head on floor and stooping when he walked after playign a stupid shot and he undid himself just with his attitude

i am 29 nearly and can remember sleepign in the queue at wimbledonw hen i ws 16 and asked my tennis nut mate about marc rosset as i didnt know a lot and he said hes that big ugly gormless guy with big serve and that was back then....

you can fire stats at me but what point are you trying to make???? you can go back to his school reports or his record on the junior circuit but for me as a tennis fan hes never made an impact, sorry

Actually I said he wasted his career, by not taking it seriously enough, then again a brush with death might change the outlook even more or didn't you realise that? Another thing any clown could tell you he is well past it.

Well how can he compared with El Aynaoui? I still think you are a stand-up comedian at times.

Younes didn't actually start taking tennis anywhere near seriously until he was 17, unlike many of the other pros who were in juniors and getting ready to play on the senior tour. With the late start and also the guy had 2 ankle surgeries in 15 months, which held him back and in some ways helped him have a longer career span, though he has had some major problems.

Has Younes won all surfaces in his career? I love the guy, but the facts are it's not an easy feat to achieve and not a huge amount of players have been able to do it.

You wanted a review of Rosset's career and I gave it you, whether you like it or not, and where the hell does betting coming into it? That wasn't the question at all.

Ah, Henman thought it was great to play Rosset at the AO in 97 and Tiger Tim got schooled badly. Keep up with trying to entertain me.

Then again you might be one of those people who think tennis results should only counts for 2 weeks a year in Wimbledon.

#23 ·
Naaaaaaaaa i certainly dont think tennis results should just count just for wimbledon fortnight

I am just not a fan of rosset and never have been and you should RESPECT that as if we all liked what you like then it would be a BORING world....would it not?

I am allowed to have an opionion without you shooting me down, believe it or not you are not the god of the tennis forums.

Oasis, I thought as a stand up comedian that you don't laugh at your own jokes.

As for being God, considering I am an athiest, that was a very impressive comment and no Rosset is the epitome of intelligent and creative tennis.

When didn't I respect your opinion? It was yourself who came up with the insults and the caps lock. It will still read the same way without the caps lock, enough said about that.

The whole respect for your opinion thing, well it would be good if you could actually back them up with some facts, and look at my login name I am all for one party domination.

theres far worse players than rosset, I think hes done ok for the effort hes put in, if he had put in the dedication and preperation of say a henman or a becker he would have been lethal but hes not that kind of guy or personality, certainly talented but didnt take it all seriously enough.

the player who used to make me laugh was the german karsten braasch I think his name was, he was a heavy smoker and once asked the umpire if he could have a ciggarette at the changeover lol
