Depardieu also heavily criticised the anti-Putin protest stunt that the Pussy Riot all-female punk band performed last year in Russia's main cathedral.
Two band members are currently serving two-year sentences in Russia's notorious manual labour camps.
Depardieu almost directly repeated Putin's argument that the band members would have received worse treatment had they gone to an Arab country and performed in a mosque.
"Imagine if these ladies walked into a mosque; they would not come out alive," the actor said in a different section of the interview taped in apparent secrecy with the help of a cell phone.

Here's a bit of random Korean trivia: all Koreans turn one year older on January 1st, not on their real birthdays. They still celebrate the birthdays but it's not as special as in other countries. The reason for the January 1st collective birthday (I imagine) is that Koreans need to use different politeness levels to older people and to people who are the same age as them. Imagine if someone was half a year older than you, you'd need to switch between these levels a lot, it would be confusing and difficult. So they decided that everyone born in the same year was the same age. Neat, huh  And yeah, they usually ask or offer their age when meeting new people because they need to know which politeness endings to use.

I remember guys like Pantani and Ullrich being nailed to the wall as cheating bastards and many Armstrong fans telling me how naive I am if I even considered the possibility of Lance being on doping as well with the main argument used: "he survived cancer. Do you really think he's going to put that poison into his body after all he's gone through? Surviving cancer made him strong, he doesn't need drugs unlike those two filthy cheaters..."
They're quiet now, aren't they?
One such an Armstrong defender is one of my work mates, but I haven't given him a hard time over it because his mum died of cancer and one of the reasons Lance was his hero was the cancer foundation and him being a role model as a cancer survivor.

The Oprah interview will be shown tomorrow so I don't know yet what Armstrong said exactly.
The trouble is that if he admits doping, he risks facing several law suits with every dollar he's got at stake. (according to my newspaper, his estimated wealth = about € 100 million dollar).
So, how can he admit guilt while facing that? Some time ago, the USADA offered him a reduced sentence if he was willing to talk openly about doping. He didn't agree so they gave him a life-long ban.
Throughout his career, Armstrong has been protected by a number of guys: Pat McQuaid, Hein Verbruggen, Johan Bruyneel,...
The theory is that in return for more leniency towards himself, he'd be willing to nail his protectors against the wall.
