Bolt into the qualifying final round after winning his second round, not without a struggle against 1323 ranked, very athletic looking Nathan Pasha, ex Georgia College player. Bolt winning 46, 64, 60.
Pasha disposed of Greg Jones in the first round in straight sets, while Bolt had a bye.
Tough asignment next though for Alex against Alex Kuznetsov.
Good luck Boltie
Boltie makes it look easy in the firsts set, winning it 6-1, but Yank Kuznetsov fights back, snipping the second set in a tie-break, agonisingly close score of 10-12. Ouch - Bolt must have had some match points there.
Now Bolt serving at 2-3 in the 3rd.
Now at 3-4, Bolt serving
Moves on to 4-5, Bolt serving - no bp's so far this set - as tight as - now 5-5.
Kuznetsov serving at 84%, not giving Boltie a look in - now Bolt serving at 5-6.
Com'n Boltie, qualify
3rd set tie-break... Go Bolt, but first blood to Kuznetsov leads 2-0, now 4-1. Bolt holds for 3-4, then Kuzentsov replies to get 3 match points at 6-3. One saved, 4-6.
Nope - another agonisingly close result going the wrong way for poor Alex Bolt, as Kuznetsiv wins the tb 7-4
Tight match against Fritz at the moment,
Alex lost the first set 7-6(5) and it's 1-1 in the second. Don't see him winning, but would have been a good match to watch, shame it wasn't streamed.
That is sad, he was looking so promising there for a long while, and I thought he still had a chance to make it. But I guess you just have to make the hard call sometimes, and this last while hasn't been great for him.
Wow That seems to have come from nowhere. The results hadn't really been coming lately but he certainly showed glimpses of potential, especially in that Chinese challenger a few years back. Did he give any particular reason Scott?
When caught up in the successes and excitement of the Aussie tennis players that we get to watch frequent the big stage, it can be easy to forget the ones that the dream simply doesn't work out for.
Good luck to Alex, hope he finds a career path that he loves.
Any retirement is sad but it hurts even more when you are forced to retire against your own terms in perspective to his tennis career. I do really hope that he has made the right move for his future and livelihood. Best of luck Alex!
Rising tennis player Alex Bolt has been granted a wildcard for the Australian Open in Melbourne.
