show me one director who was working harder and better than cameron in the last year. like you said, he created an own new world and made the most successful movie of all-time out of it. i don't see anyone who can compete with that.

If someone creates quality art whether they make 1 dollar or 1 billion dollar in profits it shouldn't matter one way or another.

you have given the answer earlier by yourself. on one side you seem to give credit to cameron and on the other side you are blinded by the hate.
a weak storyline is even better for cameron. it means he still has some potential to create a better storyline in avatar 2 on his already exisiting new world. knowing avatar will make more than $2 billion imagine how it will look like for avatar 2. it will be higher for sure judging by the law of the box office after people saw a good movie with high rates.
also smart one by cameron to get % from the success of the movie and not getting paid a fixed salary. he must have known about the success and so he earned more money.

you've answered your own question before. i also answered to your comment about the weak storyline.
i've once wrote a very long comment about the storyline and its limitation in 3d movies. you can't expect a gone a with the wind like storyline.

Re: (Road to the) Oscars 2010
Cameron is pretty impressive. He knows what to do with a big budget (as opposed to, say, Michael Bay who uses it for extra explosions.)
BUT in my humble opinion, a movie that doesn't have a shot at an acting or script award, shouldn't be competing for the BEST MOVIE award. A best movie where the acting isn't very good and the storyline is weak? Like Roger Ebert said, give me a f***ing break!

Re: (Road to the) Oscars 2010
Though I agree that Avatar shouldn't be considered for best picture, I find it funny to see how much mocking it takes for the bad acting when 90% of the time the only characters on screen are giant blue computer generated aliens.

Re: (Road to the) Oscars 2010
Screen Actor's Guild Awards will be held in Los Angeles tomorrow.
http://www.imdb.com/Sections/Awards/...ld_Awards/2010
While there will be neither director nor picture awards and Waltz and Mo'Nique will almost guaranteed win additional trophies, main actors' categories could become interesting. Another award would make Bridges the Oscar favourite. But somehow I feel Clooney is not yet done. I hope for Mulligan to win it, otherwise it's probably between Streep and Bullock from that moment on.
Lifetime Achievement Award goes to

Even if Sanjay Gupta were to operate on bilbo's brain he would still not be able to find the faulty neuron that consistently confuses $$$$$$$ and quality.

Waltz takes the SAG award as well.

Bullock and Brisges win too, same as at the Globes.

Expected win.
Also, if you look at the BAFTA nominations, no nomination for the Avatar screenplay. Again, expected.
