Re: 2010 Australian season - he won’t stop, he’s in Oz!
His English is no way bad enough to mistake girlfriend for wife so it's either true or some kind of cryptic private joke.

Yep bless him. I think it's lovely how he manages to keep his private life very private. I bet it's not easy.

Hopefully yes.

In French, it's not uncommon for long time partners to use the terms husband/wife without being legally married. Maybe it was just a matter of lack of proper English vocabulary.

Does Stan speaks French or German? Is it only in French that girlfriend/wife/concubine is the same thing?

Anyhow, this little news (even if it's just a misunderstanding), cheer things up, doesn't it
Otherwise, it's been a dreadful week in terms of tennis.

He probably meant, after hearing the question, that if he had a wife she would be the first person he would bring.
It's a lot of fuss about very few imo Don't forget that he's not a natural english speaker.

Because that mention on his wiki page is obviously solely based upon that bit of interview. I didn't mean I wished they were not married.

Not the same thing:
girlfriend = current partner (i.e. until the next one show up)
wife = long time or stable partner
concubine = mostly a legal term only for people who have signed that specific partnership contract.

Stan is a French speaker. It is his native language.
Fran, Nat, have you can looked it up on youtube? I like the way he speaks, very swiss-like I guess, but I'm no expert.

so that's their definition in French?
To me though, gf = current partner, wife = current partner but you just want it in writing, concubine = an ancient term, modern term is mistress, google Tiger Wood.

Yes, much more fun than discussing his current state in tennis.
