No, it's not. I have nothing to be bitter about. My upbringing wasn't like that. It was a casual religious upbringing.
I rejected it because it makes no sense and that's the simple truth. You're not talking to someone who's had a strict religious upbringing and is now rebelling against the church. The notion of a deity goes against all logic and reason. I don't subscribe to anything that's irrational or lacking in evidence.
Thanks for the couch session, though, Freud.

Re: Do You Believe In A "God"?
Descartes' rationalism led him to the evidence of God's existence and veracity.
But Descartes' God is crap anyway.

Descartes lived in the 17th century. David Hume is one of the greatest thinkers the world has ever known, yet he was a racist. They were men of their respective times. Atheism wasn't intellectually viable in Descartes' time.
Have you read his "proof" for God? It's pretty comical.
Hume > Descartes.

Tennis has no blood passport system, and does basically no out of competition testing.
The methods and drugs used by Armstrong in 1999 would work in tennis right now, with zero chance of being caught (not slightly surprising to anyone familiar with the topic, btw).

Re: Do You Believe In A "God"?
Funny thread.
Descartes, Copernicus, Keppler, Galileo, Newton, Darwin, Bohr, & Dawkins are my heros.
So far for my take on this particular subject.

you hit the nail on the head actually I'd say your IQ is at least 140 since you are able to guess people's IQ only from their posts

Re: Do You Believe In A "God"?
I've studied Descartes at university and his proof of God in particular. However I'm afraid I know nothing about Hume, except his name.
Descartes' proof of God is not as ridiculous as it looks at first sight. He was analyzing his "cogito" in the search for its second pillar. In his analysis he found the notions/concept of infinity and perfection. And it's true we have this in our mind. These notions of infinity and perfection are what Descartes calls God. But it's just God based on human intellect, certainly not the same as Christians' God, for example.
At least it's the way I see it. All I say is open to criticism.
