Vicente campeón de Cataluña

El tenis catalán tiene nuevo campeón. Fernando Vicente quien el domingo en la final, se impuso a Albert Montañés por 6-4 y 7-5 en la pista central del CE Laietà ante mas de quinientos espectadores. Fue la revancha del año pasado y la segunda victoria de Vicente en seis partidos y, además del título, consiguió un premio en metálico de 1.800 euros.

En el primer set Vicente alcanzó el 4-1 y todo apuntaba a una resolución rápida Montañés logró igualar y cuando servía para empatar a cinco tuvo que remontar triple punto de «set· y lo cedió en el tercero. Tuvo problemas en un tobillo y pareció que optaba por el abandono pero siguió. En el segundo «set» luchó y rozó el tercero; tuvo ventaja de 3-1, de 5-3 y con 5-4 sirvió vió para «set», y dispuso de bola de empate..Con un golpe profundo sacó de la pista a Vicente por su revés, subió a red a rematar. Pero su volea, cuando tenia toda la pista a su disposición y su rival desplazado, se fue fuera por centímetros. Ahí se acabó el partido.

Too bad for Fernando... I like him; he's a cheeky guy! When he played Toronto a couple of years ago, his photo for his credentials had him sticking out his tongue! It was hilarious! I thought, this guy has a sense of humour!

I saw him and talk with him several years in the Barcelona tournament. He's a very friendly guy

too bad he's very down in the rankings right now and near retirement, or he'd have more fans, I guess
