Moya, Nishikori pull out of U.S. Open with injuries
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP)—The U.S. Tennis Association says former No. 1 Carlos Moya of Spain is pulling out of the U.S. Open because of a foot injury.
The 1998 French Open champion has been sidelined most of this season; his ranking recently slipped out of the top 100. Kei Nishikori of Japan was atop the alternates list for the year’s last Grand Slam tournament, but he withdrew due to an injury, too.
The two departures mean that 106th-ranked Nicolas Lapentti of Ecuador moves into the tournament’s main draw.
The U.S. Open begins Aug. 31.

He has a problem in his elbow. Apparently he cut his elbow with a broken glass.

Seeding Battle
The race to the number two seeding at the US Open could be decided tomorrow in Cincinnati.
If Murray def. Federer he is guaranteed number two seeding.
If Nadal def Federer (in the final) he is guaranteed number two seeding.
It would feel so weird if Federer and Nadal end up on the same half of the draw at the US Open. Nevertheless, whoever (out of Federer, Murray, Nadal and Djokovic) ends up with del Potro in their quarter could consider themselves very unlucky. Same goes for Roddick, but to a lessor extent.
